Second annual art competition is a winner

The second Prep & Primary Schools’ Art Competition, organised by Haileybury and held towards the end of November, has once again proved an enormous success, with more than 300 entries from 20 schools around the country.

Hill House International in London and Hertfordshire-based Heathmount proved to be the two strongest contenders in the competition. Winners are as follows:

2nd – Poppy Archer (Heathmount)
3rd – Ellie Piper (Cheam School)

Years 5 – 6

2nd – Isabelle Gleneross (Heathmount)
3rd – Max Lem-for (Hill House International)

Years 3 – 4

Head of Art at Haileybury, John Pearson-Phillips, says the quality of work is an enormous improvement on last year’s efforts.

"The children’s handling of paint across well-thought out 2D compositions was a joy to behold," he comments. "There was some very strong draughtsmanship too."

Winners were invited to spend the morning at Haileybury and were hosted to lunch. Mr Pearson-Phillips says preparation for next year’s competition has already begun and, in addition to the winners, highly commended awards will be given to the best entries from each school that participates.

Schools which took part in this year’s event included Lochinver House, The Junior School from Bishop’s Stortfort College, Heathmount, Little Hallingbury, Westbrook Hay, St Michaels (Woolmer Green), Cheam School, St Joseph’s in the Park, Norfolk Lodge Prep School, St Johns Primary (Rickmansworth), Birchwood Ave Primary (Hatfield), Hill House International, Hexton J.M.I (Hexton), Beechwood Park, Beeston Hall (Cromer), Grange Park Prep, Haileybury Lower School, Roselands, Winchester House School and Breachwood Primary (Hitchin).
