Prince Andrew visits Haileybury Almaty

HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, visited Haileybury Almaty on Monday, 19 April 2010 as part of his visit to Kazakhstan to promote British interests in the country.

Haileybury Almaty is the only British school in Central Asia. Prince Andrew met Andrew Auster, Headmaster of Haileybury Almaty, and Alister Bartholomew, Project Director of the School’s developers, Capital Partners, at the KIOGE exhibition of 2007, and promised to visit the School on his next visit to Almaty.

After his visit to Almaty, the Prince was due to meet Kazakhstan’s President Nazarbayev to talk about further educational and business links between the two countries. The project to open a second Haileybury in the capital, Astana, is likely to be a discussion point.

The school in Almaty is a Haileybury UK-branded school, opened in September 2008. The co-educational school has 402 pupils, 79% of whom are Kazakh nationals.
