IB pupils achieve average points score of 35.3

16 July 2009

More than 60% of the Higher Level grades obtained in this year's IB results were the prestigious 6 or 7, while 65% of Standard Level scores were also at those top grades.

The Average Points Score, at 35.3, although slightly below the eventual level of last year (35.9), is ahead of the average for the years 2005, 06 and 07. This represents a good level of achievement by our pupils who follow the demanding IB programme. It reflects well both on their hard work and on the quality of teaching provided by the Haileybury staff.

Several pupils performed extremely well, gaining scores above 40 (out of the maximum of 45). The five top scorers are:

  • Henry Englander 44 points
  • Greg Newman 42 points
  • Elliot Pannaman 42 points
  • Vanessa Butz 41 points
  • Sina Saffe 41 points

Henry has been offered a placed at Cambridge to read Law, Greg will go to Warwick to read Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics, Elliot goes to Leeds to read Chinese and Management, while Sina goes to University College London to read Medicine and Vanessa goes to Oxford to read Engineering, Economics and Management.

This is an interesting range of top universities and also an interesting spread of subjects - Law, Maths, Languages, Engineering and Medicine - indicating that the IB really does have the power to open a wide variety of doors to university and the careers that lie beyond.
