Haileybury pupils produce 85% A* - B grades

Haileybury’s Sixth Formers have turned out the best set of results the school has ever seen, with 85% of A Level and International Baccalaureate (IB) pupils achieving A* – B grades in their recent exams, compared to 81% last year. In addition, of the 136 candidates, 18% achieved the A* grade, the government’s new grade which is designed to reward the top academic achievers. This compares to a national average of 8%.

The percentage of A* – C grades is 93,1% while Haileybury’s overall pass rate is 99,7%, up from 99% last year.

Greg Carton, Craig Hawes, Harry Sheehan and Rosie Woodcock were the best performers, with four A*s each. Natchai Kanathanavanich achieved three A*s and an A while Charles Gratton, Rhiannon Ludlow and Oliver Phillpott each achieved two A*s and two As.

This academic excellence comes after 71,2% of the Higher Level grades obtained in this year’s IB results were the prestigious 6 or 7, while 69,7% of Standard Level scores were also at those top grades. The average points score was 37.2 out of a possible 45 – also the best results achieved since Haileybury introduced the IB more than 10 years ago.

The results mean that Haileybury boasts four pupils accepted into Oxbridge colleges for September 2010.

The Master of Haileybury, Joe Davies, says: "Obviously, we are thrilled with the results from all our Sixth Form pupils. They demonstrate the high level of commitment that both pupils and staff have to achieving the best they can."
