Academic

  • Nurture intellectual curiosity and support academic ambition through an engaging curriculum and inspirational teaching, which inspires a lifelong love of learning and equips pupils with the values, skills and credentials they need to thrive.
  • Prepare pupils for their future by deepening their understanding of higher education and career possibilities, strengthening their leadership skills, enhancing an appreciation of the diversity of the world and encouraging a sense of service to the wider community.

Leverage our independence to the benefit of our pupils’ educational outcomes

Adapt our curriculum to create more opportunities for pupils to pursue their intellectual passion, make connections across academic disciplines and apply theory to real-world contexts. Develop 21st Century skills and dispositions and review assessment structures and reporting models.

Build positive learning habits and support rigour, relevance and fulfilment

Develop pupils’ executive function skills and ensure that rigour and the pursuit of excellent academic outcomes do not come at the expense of a love of learning or a sense of personal fulfilment. Offer a curriculum that is challenging, broad, relevant and engaging.

Establish Haileybury as a centre of pedagogical excellence and embrace technologies which support pupils’ learning

Ensure that pedagogy adapts to support learning and that digital resources have a positive impact on outcomes. Promote informed attitudes towards technology as part of a balanced digital diet and support our community in navigating a changing digital landscape.

Introduce a Programme of Leadership and Enterprise

Create a bespoke Programme of Leadership and Enterprise. Partner with industry to support pupils’ understanding of the skills needed to achieve career success and realise ambitious goals.

Pastoral

  • Nurture the mind, body and spirit of our pupils by providing outstanding pastoral care which sees every pupil feeling known, valued and understood and ensures that pupils understand their role in supporting their own wellbeing.
  • Instil and develop in our pupils the values, skills and dispositions which see them growing into optimistic, self-aware young people of good character who have a sense of social responsibility and are able to walk and work with people of every background.

Embed a culture of consistently outstanding and proactive tutoring

Create more time for tutors to offer personalised coaching and mentoring to their tutees. Deepen collaborative relationships between school and home.

Structure our timetable in a way which supports pupil wellbeing

Support pupil wellbeing by reviewing how time is allocated across the school day and weeks with a view to ensuring that pupils have sufficient opportunity to manage the many demands on their time as well as finding fulfilment and enjoyment in their busy lives.

Create spaces which facilitate greater pupil integration

Create vibrant communal areas for pupils to build strong friendships and socialise beyond their boarding houses and enhance the use of outdoor spaces to support wellbeing.

Empower our pupils to better understand themselves and how they can support their own wellbeing

Strengthen pupil agency by adapting our wellbeing curriculum and drawing on external expertise as needed. Ensure that pupil voice is heard as we work together to create an environment in which every young person can thrive.

Co-curricular

  • Offer a co-curricular programme that allows a breadth and depth of experience for pupils to enjoy and which will inspire, challenge, build confidence and support the personal development of all pupils.
