Combined Cadet Forces
Haileybury’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a vibrant and historic programme that inspires pupils to develop leadership, resilience, and a spirit of service through adventure, challenge, and teamwork.
Haileybury College Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has long focused on developing the whole person. Through leadership, discipline, and service, it nurtures confidence, resilience, and teamwork in young people.
Sponsored and supported by the MOD, our sole drive is to offer opportunities for cadets to grow valuable skills, particularly in communication and leadership, fostering an understanding of the importance of working together towards a common goal, while pursuing excellence and high standards as a matter of cultural necessity.
Adventurous training such as navigation, rock climbing and kayaking run alongside more traditional military training in our three sections (Royal Navy, Army and RAF). CCF at Haileybury is a unique chance to evolve into a young adult with huge potential to make a positive impact in whatever path is chosen.
(Lt Col) Carl Igolen-Robinson
Contingent Commander, Haileybury CCF
With a proud tradition dating back to 1886, the CCF at Haileybury offers pupils the opportunity to join sections of the Royal Navy, British Army, or Royal Air Force.
Cadets take part in a wide variety of activities each week, including first aid, map-reading, survival skills, adventurous pursuits such as sailing, climbing, sub-aqua, and flying, as well as command tasks and field exercises. These experiences are designed not only to teach practical skills but also to inspire self-confidence, responsibility, and resourcefulness in every participant.
Leadership is at the heart of the CCF experience. Pupils are encouraged to step up, take charge, and support their peers, often leading sessions and activities themselves after specialist training.
Through regular parades, field weekends, and annual camps, cadets are immersed in an environment that celebrates teamwork and service, while also reflecting on the School’s values and history, especially during meaningful events like Armistice Day commemorations.
The CCF is not a military recruitment tool, but a unique educational partnership that challenges pupils to discover their strengths, build character, and embrace new experiences. By integrating with other co-curricular programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Community Service, the CCF at Haileybury ensures that every cadet is inspired to grow, lead, and make a positive impact, both within the School community and beyond.
RAF Cadet Ella appointed as Hertfordshire Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet

We are delighted to share the outstanding achievement of RAF Cadet Ella (Upper Sixth), who has been formally appointed as the Hertfordshire Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet – a role of considerable honour and responsibility.
At her investiture ceremony, Ella was recognised for her exceptional dedication, discipline and service to both Haileybury and the wider community. The appointment reflects the values she has consistently demonstrated through her commitment to the RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force.
The Lord Lieutenant acts as His Majesty the King’s personal representative in the county, and the appointment of a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet is one of the highest distinctions a young person can receive in recognition of their service. Over the coming year, Ella will accompany the Lord Lieutenant at key civic and ceremonial events across Hertfordshire, proudly representing the Crown, Haileybury and the youth of the county.
This remarkable appointment is a testament to Ella’s character and hard work, and we are incredibly proud that she will serve in this distinguished role.
