Under 13 boys unlucky in hockey cup
The Under 13 boys’ hockey squad travelled to Watford to take on the likes of Watford GS, Broxbourne HC, John Warner School and Tring HC last weekend.
With a blistering 3-0 win in the first game, with Joel Stewart scoring two goals in two minutes, the omens looked very good.
Another stirring performance to hold Watford to 1-1 meant that we looked well set to qualify for the semi-finals.
Then a 2-0 loss to a Broxbourne side (including one of our own in Dominic Boakes!) meant that we needed to take something from the game with John Warner to qualify. With four mins to go, we sat 1-0 up and suddenly, two break away goals from them knocked us out of the Cup and sent us home early.
It was a shame that this group of dedicated players did not manage to get further in the competition. However, much comment was made on how we conducted ourselves and the quality of our patterns of play and quality of our first touch. Well done to the players, who included Joel Stewart, Felix Sharman, Tom Douglas, Henry Wombwell, Albert King, Elliot Bester, James Brooking and Christian Scales.
