The Duke of Edinburgh’s  (DofE)
Award Scheme

Haileybury’s Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award programme inspires pupils to embrace challenge, discover their potential, and develop the confidence and resilience needed for life beyond school.

Open to all pupils aged 14 and above, the DofE at Haileybury is more than a set of activities. It is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and pursue new experiences across four key areas: Volunteering, Skills, Physical, and Expedition. At Gold level, a residential project further broadens horizons and fosters independence.

At Haileybury, all Removes (Year 9) pupils take part in the Bronze award; and both the Silver and Gold awards are available after this. Expeditions take place in the New Forest, the Peak District, Brecon Beacons and canoeing on the river Severn.

Our dedicated staff guide and support each participant, helping them set ambitious goals and reflect on their progress.

Whether volunteering with local conservation projects, learning a new skill, pushing themselves in sports, or undertaking memorable expeditions, pupils are inspired to persevere, collaborate, and lead.

The DofE experience at Haileybury not only cultivates self-discipline, organisation, and empathy, but also instils a sense of achievement and purpose that lasts a lifetime.

By challenging themselves and serving others, Haileyburians taking part in the DofE Award embody the School’s values and emerge as confident, compassionate individuals, ready to make a positive impact in the world.

In an age where image without substance is prevalent, the Duke Of Edinburgh awards programme allows children to enjoy real experiences; challenging themselves through adventurous,
creative and practical tasks, in beautiful outdoor settings, to develop character, stamina, great friendships and lifetime skills
