Ensembles and Performance
There are a large number of musical ensembles, including 18 small ensembles of trios and quartets; six rock/pop bands; a jazz band; two wind concert bands; a string orchestra; and our symphony orchestra.
For singers, Haileybury has five choirs singing sacred liturgical repertoire for our Chapel and secular concert works, as well as contemporary pop songs.
Haileybury is fortunate to offer pupils a variety of performance spaces, including our resonant and imposing Chapel, the atmospheric Bradby Hall, the Music Department Atrium and our newly refurbished Recital Room. Specialist recital instruments include our notable Klais Organ and Steinway grand piano. The Music Department building has an extensive number of individual practice and teaching rooms, two music technology suites, and recording facilities.
The performance opportunities at Haileybury include regular school concerts on a small and large scale across the academic year in a variety of settings, from our concert hall-style performances and solo recitals to cabaret-style jazz evenings and musical competitions. There is always at least one musical theatre production staged per year. Recent music tour destinations have included Australia, Kuala Lumpur and Milan, and our Chamber Choir has sung in St Paul’s Cathedral and at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge.
