Charity and Community Action
Haileybury supports charities locally, nationally and internationally, giving pupils of all ages the opportunity to create, administer and lead fundraising projects.
Pupils at Haileybury raise money for a wide range of charities, both as part of school initiatives and in their individual capacities.
The pupil-led Charity Committee meets once a week, chaired by two Charities and Service School Prefects and has at least one representative from each House. Any young philanthropist is welcome to join.
The Committee runs an active schedule of events including a Charity Ball in January, regular doughnut sales, non-uniform days, teacher vs pupils competitions and quizzes – all are pupil initiatives.
Haileybury is also committed to its role in shaping its pupils to be caring and thoughtful individuals, able and willing to contribute to society. Our Community Service programme is for Sixth Form pupils and takes place on Wednesday afternoons. This might involve acting as classroom assistants at local primary schools, helping older people, organising football training or decorating a local church hall.
The programme also affords a rewarding opportunity for pupils to fulfil service hours for the Duke of Edinburgh scheme or the CAS programme operated within the International Baccalaureate.
The programme provides an enriching experience for pupils, broadening their horizons and providing an enhanced sense of self-worth. The aim is for all Sixth Form pupils to undertake community service either on campus or within the community.
