The Under 16 girls’ netball team surpassed themselves on Saturday with the quality of their netball and the progress that they made throughout the day during the county championships. This was the first time that these girls have competed together as a team, with Nancy Muzzlewhite, Georgia Billings and Bella Walter stepping up from the Under 15 age group. Each and every one of them gave of their best and can be proud of what they have achieved. The coach received several complements from fellow coaches on the girls’ play and their exceptional teamwork.
In the first quarter final, the girls made a hesitant start and were losing 5 – 2 at half time. After some competetive and well-contested play, they drew the second half 7 – 7, losing the game 12 – 9.
In the second quarter final the girls were ready to play from the off and at half time the score was 8 – 8. In the second half the game went with centre pass to 11 – 11 and both teams were playing flat out. Broxbourne managed to score on a Haileybury centre pass and get a run of play that resulted in Haileybury losing 19 – 12.
The players have proved they do have what it takes to compete with the best and, with some technical input in the netball season, improved fitness and a good mixture of self belief and confidence as a team, they should all enjoy continued improvement.
