Success at Achilles Relays

Haileybury athletes had a very good meeting at the Achilles Relays in Oxford this week and enjoyed a good deal of success throughout the afternoon against 24 other teams from across the country.

In the heats we achieved two 1st places, five 2nds and two 3rd place finishes and qualified for the finals in all our events bar one. We went on to manage a first and a second place finish in the boys’ finals and a fifth place finish in the girls’ finals. Our senior boys 4 x 200m squad unfortunately had to scratch from their final due to a double injury and the U17 4 x 200m squad were disqualified on the final change-over when in front, in an incident similar to last year involving the same two athletes!

The U17 4 x 100m squad, as well as winning the final and a handsome trophy, also broke the meeting record which has stood for more than 30 years and the match referee awarded the quartet the Roger Bannister Trophy for the Outstanding Performance of the Day.
