Prep & Primary Schools' Festival of Arts, 3-15 June
Festival of Arts Exhibition
Monday 3 – Saturday 15 June 2013
We are delighted that so many prep and primary schools have entered the Art and Creative Competitions for our annual Festival of Arts. Haileybury teachers Charlotte Orford, Head of Art, and English teacher Nigel Parkin have begun the process of judging the hundreds of entries and have been impressed by the high quality of pupils’ work.
Artwork and writing will be exhibited in two specially erected marquees in Memorial Quad at Haileybury for a two week period, from Monday 3 June, culminating in the Awards Ceremony on Saturday 15 June. Participating schools have been invited to make use of these spaces for their own writing or art workshop sessions or to invite and encourage families to view their children’s work. The exhibition sessions are only available by prior arrangement so booking by individual schools is essential.
Sir Andrew Motion – Masterclass, Workshop and Reading
We are delighted that former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion will be attending the Exhibition on Thursday 13 June and will be leading two sessions with selected pupils.
The afternoon will conclude with Sir Andrew Motion reading from his collection of war poems, The Customs House, which draws on soldiers’ experiences of war from 1914 until today, through World War Two, Korea and the recent conflict in Afghanistan. This event (starting at 4.30pm) is open to everyone and is not limited to Haileyburians or schools participating in the Festival.
Reading starts 4.30pm – all welcome, please contact the Box Office to reserve a place: 01992 706355
