On Wednesday 13th June Haileybury hosted Newhall School in a Lower School athletics fixture. We have never competed against Newhall before so it was an exciting prospect to see if we could be successful against a much larger school. They have about 60 girls in each year group compared to our 18 in Lower School 1 and about 25 in Lower School 2.
It was a fantastic afternoon and the girls did themselves proud. Lizzie Bird and Jess Billings started the day off well by coming 1st and 2nd in the 1500 metres (respectively). The Lower School 1 relay team were also very strong and brought home the baton in 1st place, gaining us lots of valuable points. Vicky Mullins won the shot with a huge throw of 6.53m, Alix Parsons was also successful in the high jump, winning with a jump of 1.21m.
Lower school 2 were just as successful, with Tory Hart winning the 1500 metres, and Eliza Walter clearly winning the high jump with a massive jump of 1m 43.
Overall, the scores were very tight, with Lower School 1 winning by 23 points. Lower School 2 lost to a strong Newhall team by 22 points, which meant that Haileybury won overall by just 1 point.
Thank you and well done to all.
