Haileybury Pupils win awards at Reigate Model United Nations Conference
Haileybury pupils' public speaking skills were recently demonstrated at the Reigate Model United Nations Conference on Saturday 4th October. Twelve pupils attended the conference and several of them received prestigious awards.
The delegation of Pakistan (Ellie Owen (LS2) Jack Poelvoorde (LS2), Charlie Cook (LS2) and Rory Spies (Trevelyvan, Lower Sixth) fought off fierce competition to win a Highly Commended Delegation award. This was particularly impressive as three of the pupils were Lower School pupils.
Rory Spies also received an individual Outstanding Delegate award, while Ellie Owen won the award of Highly Commended Delegate. This is Ellie's third award at three successive conferences: an incredible achievement for a Lower School pupil.
Charlie Bird, Aryan Shivahare, Daniel Hampshire and Oscar Lock from the Lower School also worked really well together as the delegation of Slovenia. Daniel Worby, Tom Oliver and Georgina Heaton also performed well in their capacity as Chairs.
The trip was led by Miss Clare McTernan ad Miss Ruth Everness. Miss McTernan said, "It is lovely to see the pupils hard work being recognised and they fully deserved their awards. The whole group were excellent ambassadors for Haileybury and I look forward to seeing them at further conferences throughout the year."
