Good defence leads to win over King's
This weekend the 1st lacrosse team squared off against King’s. The opening whistles saw the King’s team win a strong draw. Within the first minute of the game their fluid passing around goal had produced a frightening double attempt on our goal. Our faithful goalie, Helen, was not letting them get away with anything though, as she worked hard to block the shots while our defence settled.
That was to be the only steak we let the King’s side have. The sharp wake-up call had our offensive forwards looking to make their mark. Goal after goal was put away by the usual suspects, Persephone Bridgman-Baker and Lauren Smith, but rookie Sophie Baird had a stunning three goals against! Needless to say it was the smooth feeds by interception monsters Danni and Tala that kept the team in a secure lead. The King’s team was far from beaten though and managed a commendable rally in the last 5 minutes of play, narrowing the score to 7-5.
The 2nds faced a tough opponent this weekend against King’s Canterbury. Lucy Phillips and Shannon Gregory demonstrated their usual dominance over the middle of the field. Emily Bowden-Eyre and Katharina Nau provided a strong line of defence for goalie Sarah Peters-Harrison, who was a wall during the first half. However, by the third period King’s Canterbury’s fresh legs and offensive skill proved too much for our girls, who eventually succumbed 8-3.
