Antonio sets new personal best

Haileybury pupil, Antonio Infantino, competed in the South of England Indoor Championships last Saturday, winning the Under 17 men’s 60m comfortably in a time of 6.95 seconds.

Antonio won his heat (one of seven) in a new PB of 7.07s. He then went through to the first semi-final as the fastest qualifier and won his semi-final in a time of 7.02s, smashing his new PB. He went in to the final with some very strong competitors (nearly all were ranked in the top 10 in the country), and won convincingly in a time of 6.95s. The second place was in a time of 7.02s and equalled the record set by Harry Aikines-Aryetey, the current World Junior Champion, who was at the venue and saw Antonio’s race.

His next competition will be the AAA National Indoor Championships at the NIA in Birmingham on 24 February, where he will be representing the South of England.
