Summer always brings a special kind of magic to Haileybury, and this year’s International Summer School proved to be yet another amazing adventure!

From the opening day of the Summer School, the College was abuzz with pupils from dozens of countries, each taking bold steps into a month of learning, laughter, and lasting memories. As suitcases rolled over the quad and new friends greeted each other with excitement, Haileybury’s magnificent campus set the perfect stage for a summer of fun and friendship.

Classrooms quickly came to life with spirited English lessons, where imagination thrived and language skills flourished. Pupils threw themselves into STEM challenges, collaborative art projects, and lively debates, led by our dedicated teaching teams. In small classes, curiosity abounded, and confidence soared.

Beyond lessons, the calendar was packed with unforgettable experiences. The sounds of football matches, tennis rallies, and laughter from our arts and crafts rooms wove a vibrant soundtrack to daily life. Many tried their hand at Krav Maga, baked their first British scones, or took centre stage in drama and music workshops. Evenings were filled with open-air cinema nights and silent discos beneath the summer sky in a true celebration of global friendship.

Wednesdays and weekends saw pupils setting off for adventures further afield, from discovering the treasures of the Wallace Collection to punting along the river Cam, and exploring the dreaming spires of Oxford and Cambridge, amongst many other exciting trips. Each excursion brought textbook learning to life and deepened the students’ connection to British culture and history.

Crucially, the Summer School’s spirit was felt in the warmth of our boarding houses. Guided by caring houseparents, our international community grew closer with every meal shared, every story told, and every challenge conquered together.

As the programme drew to a close, pupils left not just with improved English and academic skills, but as more confident and independent individuals, enriched by friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

The 2025 Haileybury International Summer School has been a true testament to the joy of learning through fun activities. Our heartfelt thanks to all the pupils and staff who made this summer so memorable.

We look forward to welcoming new adventures in 2026!

As the autumn leaves begin to fall, Haileybury’s sports fields have been alive with the sound of cheering and the thud of boots on turf. Our pupil athletes have demonstrated remarkable tenacity and grit across a wide range of sports, showcasing the strength of Haileybury’s programme. From rugby to hockey, netball to golf, our students have risen to every challenge with determination and skill.

Here are some of the highlights and photos from the past five weeks of competition.

Rugby

The boys’ rugby season kicked off with a bang, the 1st XV scoring 43 points in victory over Felsted, with England international Fraser scoring an impressive five tries. The U15A team has been particularly noteworthy, amassing over 200 points in just seven matches and winning six of them. Their 24-12 triumph over Reeds marked a stunning reversal from last year’s 50-point defeat, and illustrates the progress they are making. U15C rugby are also in great form, winning in their final match before Half Term break.

Hockey

On the hockey pitch, the girls’ 1st XI remains unbeaten, proving themselves formidable opponents in both the national cup and England Tier 1 competitions. The team’s Tier 1 victories over Framlingham (4-0) and Ipswich (2-1) have been particularly impressive. Meanwhile, the U15A squad has been on fire in defence of their national crown, netting 55 goals in 12 games while conceding just three. The U12 girls showed that the future is in good hands too, with a county cup triumph.

Netball

Netball has seen its share of success, with the U19 squad qualifying for the regional stages of the national cup for the second consecutive year. Lucy and Charlotte have been ruthless in the shooting circle, while Daisy, Brogan, Charlotte and Alice have controlled the midcourt with aplomb.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse teams have been gaining valuable experience, notching wins against both Marlborough and Bedford. Fresh from representing Wales in the U20 World Championships, Maddie has been in particularly dynamic form.

Swimming

In the pool, swimming squads have performed admirably at the England Schools Championships and in friendly meets. The league galas are set to begin after Half Term, promising fierce competitive action in November.

Golf

The golf team has successfully navigated past St. Edmund’s and Brentwood in cup play despite challenging weather conditions. With one round still to play, they appear fully dialled in for upcoming challenges.

Football

The girls’ football squad, led by the galvanising Paisley, shows promise for the future as they train hard. Meanwhile, the boys’ 1st XI is through to the third round of the national cup after a strong 4-1 victory over Norwich, the next round of the cup for the boys is in early November.

Rackets

The rackets season got off to a fine start with Flynn and Benji achieving success during an away trip to Tonbridge. Darcey and Isla also played well as they hone their partnership. Queen’s beckons in December.

Badminton

Our badminton teams have travelled to Canterbury and Felsted. Minh particularly impressed in Kent as the girls came out on top 7-2 while the boys faced a closely fought battle ending 3-6. Their Essex away games saw them win all their encounters, and it is great to see the squad working so hard on court and in the gym and reaping the rewards in matchplay.

Basketball

Happily, our basketball squad has been re galvanised and several fixtures are in the diary. Our youthful team is gaining experience from the two encounters thus far and the future for the basketball club looks very exciting.

Cricket

Only a tiny percentage of schools are able to play cricket in September, and we are privileged to be one of them. Flynn took a career-best 7-34 to etch his name on the honours board.

“Amidst sometimes glorious sunshine and torrential rain, often at the same time (literally!), our pupils have enjoyed plenty of opportunity for participation in competitive action across all our Autumn sports, with 62 teams having taken to the field across 10 sports, and 249 fixtures having been played in the opening six weeks of term,” shared Andrew Searson. Director of Sport. “There have been some stellar performances on the pitch at all ages and abilities and some ideally pitched block fixtures, with exactly half of the aforementioned matches resulting in victory. Just as importantly off the pitch there is a huge amount for Haileybury pupils to reflect proudly upon with sportsmanship having been consistently and unfailingly demonstrated,” he added.

As we head into half term, our athletes are already poised for the many super sporting challenges that lie ahead in November and December.

After a year of outstanding fundraising by the school community, Haileybury Youth Trust [HYT] has completed the first 20 rainwater tanks of its One Million Litres project in northern Uganda. Working in Africa’s largest refugee settlement, the award-winning charity is well on the way to meeting its goal of providing 65,000 children with one million litres of clean water in 50 refugee schools.

HYT’s climate-friendly technology and vocational training means that refugees and young Ugandans are given new skills in building, while at the same time transforming their communities, which are among some of the poorest in the world.

Haileybury’s Houses, the HPA, Lower School and parents combined last year to raise in excess of £30,000 towards the One Million Litres campaign. This sum was matched in turn with grants and a generous donation from a Haileybury family, reaching a total of nearly £80,000. Such generosity goes a long way in Bidibidi, home to 240,000 South Sudanese refugees in the world’s second largest settlement, where HYT is already improving lives and opportunities for thousands of young people.

Each Haileybury House has its logo painted on a water tank, in recognition of the support given to the One Million Litres campaign. David Lupai, the Headmaster of Ambia Primary School, a school of more than 2700 refugee children, told HYT: ‘The tank you have provided will help us keep kids in lessons instead of collecting water.’ Another Headteacher, Sanya Denis of New LIfe Nursery, added: ‘Our children no longer go thirsty. Thank you.’

HYT began life in 1890, working among the poor of the East End of London. It was here that the Haileybury old boy Clement Attlee saw poverty first hand – and where he worked as manager of the Haileybury Boys’ Club, as it was then, before the First World War.

A century later, it was a move to Uganda in East Africa that gave a new lease of life to Haileybury Youth Trust, promoting a unique climate-friendly building technology and developing vocational skills among some of the continent’s most vulnerable communities.

The charity’s work has been recognised internationally, including the Award of the Ashden International Award for Sustainable Buildings in 2017 and is highly regarded by the UN and both British and Ugandan Governments.

The film below about HYT’s work was made by the British High Commission in Uganda and shown at last year’s COP26 Conference in Glasgow.

A recent addition to HYT’s work is a reforestation scheme, where each school that receives a water tank, will also have several thousand saplings planted by HYT’s forester, which will give much-needed shade, fruit and firewood, helping enrich the depleted landscape too.

Haileybury has a long and important history of service: HYT and its predecessor have been alleviating poverty for over 120 years, firstly in the East End of London and now in East Africa. Our wonderful community rises to important challenges and our pupils learn much about our interconnected global world and how we all can, in our own ways, make it a better place for all of us to live in.

“We are building a programme that Girls are excited to be a part of and want to be a part of. We have introduced new measures to really help the girls drive forward and reach their potential whatever this may be.”

Miss Isabelle Collis, Assistant Director of Cricket

Since the beginning of the Summer Term we have put out six Lower School teams and five senior teams on a weekly basis with highlights consisting of the Girls XI playing their first ever match on Pavilion. The XI have had two thrillers at home ending with a one wicket win against St Albans Cricket Club and a two wicket win against Hertfordshire County Cricket Club.

At the younger levels, we have seen great development from all the girls who are growing their knowledge and understanding of the game along with improving their skills. The Lower School have had some fantastic matches against Heathmount, St Helen and St Katharine with the U13A team losing out by five runs. The U15A have had an eventful start to the season losing their first game by one run, their second game ended in a draw with some fantastic batting from Lucy and Adeola.

Success came with a convincing win over Forest and progression into the second round of the National T20 Cup after scoring 175 with Saskia scoring her first Half Century for the School and an excellent partnership of over 100 with Ella before Sasha took 3-7.

Alongside all the fixtures, we are building a great program for the girls to get involved in Cricket at all levels and abilities with 1:1s and small group sessions offered outside of Sport sessions. The U14s had a brilliant match against Forest with Megan, Evie and Charlotte retiring on 50. Bowling wise Bella took 4-7 which led to her being called up to the XI and Freya taking 4 catches and a direct hit run out.

The girls have also joined the Boys XI, U15A and U14A for Friday night fielding showing great character and commitment to the progression of Cricket at Haileybury. The Girls XI squad also spend time with Miss Daniels to work on their strength and conditioning, allowing them to progress physically and improve their own field performance.

One of the greatest moments this term is seeing girls who have never played Cricket before give it a go whether they are in Lower School 1 or in Upper Sixth, they all approach it with the same enthusiasm and drive to succeed. Lastly, it is fantastic to see on Wednesdays every member of Lower School girls out playing Cricket and enjoying it with a smile on their face. The Lower School girls also reached the regional round of the Indoor Competition.

“Seeing the girls play with a smile on their face and enjoying themselves on a Saturday is fantastic and then when they go on and achieve a goal that they have been working on or didn’t think they could achieve is even better, especially when they have worked on this during a 1:1 or group session. There is still so much more that the girls have to give and watching it unravel is an exciting time for Girls Cricket at Haileybury.”

Miss Isabelle Collis, Assistant Director of Cricket

Isabelle played for Berkshire before she moved to Sussex where she played age group and Women. She has been on tour with the Marylebone Cricket Club and England U19.

The Dramatic Arts and Music pupils hosted an array of impressive events this Autumn Term. The range of performances brought in a brilliant end to the term and eased all involved into the spirit of Christmas with much excitement brewing for the festivities to come.

“Music at Haileybury has soared this term. From the massed choirs in Orff’s Carmina Burana to the jollity of Crash into Christmas, this has been a memorable and happy term. A personal highlight was the joy of seeing nine pupils performing concerto movements in front of an orchestra at the start of term. Since then, we never really lost the energy or enthusiasm gained that evening.”

Mr Simon Bland, Director of Music

Beginning the Autumn Term with a memorable start was the concerto concert. Several pupils flaunted their advanced musical abilities during their solo performances which were accompanied by a professional orchestra. Exuding confidence and grace, each pupil showed that they aren’t too dissimilar from the orchestra they played or sang with and that they too could become professional if they wished it. With such heartfelt performances, we are sure plenty of frisson rippled through the audience generously.

Next was the Michaelmas concert which included a symphony orchestra playing the adored works of Vaughan Williams and Ravel. Every hair was standing on end during the truly spectacular choral performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. The concert was made up of performances from the symphony orchestra, Lower School choir, Lower School cambiata, collegium voices, schola cantorum and chamber choir.

We then had a concert hosted by the Lower School’s chamber orchestra, concert band and other ensembles. The evening was a celebration of music that presented the pupil’s varied abilities in both group and solo performances. Their passion and skill radiated in every note during an exceptional concert that was in no way limited by their age.

Finally, Haileybury’s popular Music and Jazz department hosted Crash into Christmas which was an informal bounce into the Christmas season. The vibrant evening was packed full of a brilliant mix of both general and seasonal musical performances by the School’s intermediate and senior jazz bands, concert band and other ensembles. The Lower School Drama Club also performed four pleasant readings in the spirit of Christmas which were both humorous and poignant. It was a joyfully festive occasion that showcased the pupil’s vocal talents and stagecraft.

“We thank and congratulate all of those pupils whose endeavours have brought about a term of musical fireworks!”

Mr Simon Bland, Director of Music

The senior Drama pupils staged Freidrich Durrenmatt’s The Visit as the Autumn Term was coming to its final days. The pupils put on a remarkable performance of the tragicomic play, The Visit is renowned for its multiple locations, diverse characters, demanding techniques and numerous technical requirements yet the pupils appeared to tackle these challenges effortlessly. The production was a resounding success receiving five-star reviews from the audiences.

“After a shaky first night the final performances were triumphant: by burns chilling, hilarious, bizarre and thought-provoking. The hugely talented and multinational cast worked as a brilliant team, supporting each other on and off the stage.”

Mr Jacob Dylan Thomas, Director of Dramatic Arts

An eventful Autumn Term brought a spirited end to the year. We are excited to see what the Dramatic Arts and Music pupils will present in 2022.

On the 20th of November, Haileybury is braced for a win in the final of the Hult Business Challenge. Pupils in the Hult Business Challenge are given unprecedented access to a real-world business environment at a real-life company.

Charged with coming up with solutions for puzzles set by business leaders, they work on anything from a marketing plan to a market penetration strategy across an eight-week challenge-based learning programme, which kicked off on the 24 September.

The challenge

At the launch event, Haileybury’s pupils discovered that their challenge was to work on behalf of Unilever to develop a new Axe/Lynx Body Spray, with the key points being to reflect sustainability and engage with the young male target audience.

Over the following weeks, pupils engaged with a Hult Professional during a dedicated Master Class, where they had the chance to pose any questions and consider different ways of developing their products, including through partnerships and other labels or brands.

The following week, the teams had their first client touchpoint, which provided an opportunity to ask the client further questions and feedback on their work so far.

Presenting to Unilever’s executive team

The beginning of November marked a significant point in the challenge, with teams presenting back to Unilever representatives. Tasked with delivering a 10-minute presentation on their work, pupils received feedback directly from the client.

The solutions that were presented varied from collaboration with well-known footballers, the designer brand Supreme to the impact of carbon emissions and sustainability.

One of our teams was presented as one of the top two teams in the region, with positive feedback to all teams centring on their well-thought-out product, clarity of the presentation, and their innovative solutions.

This team also highlighted the fact that Axe was in slow decline, and the current business model was too repetitive. Their idea to shake this up through promoting new sustainability initiatives and innovative marketing recommendations were seen as bold and pioneering.

Onto the final!

With just one hurdle to go, the Haileybury team are now preparing for the final on the 20 November. Competing against other schools across Europe, the winning team may see their solutions implemented by the client, as well as receiving a £10,500 scholarship over three years to study at Hult International Business School in their Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (BBA) programme.

Tom from Thomason commented on the experience so far, “by consulting a company such as Axe, it has helped us to explore the world of business from a new perspective, developing our analytical, teamwork and creative skills and helping us understand what is involved in the world of business. The experience has been challenging but enjoyable and we are looking ahead with excitement to the upcoming final.”

Ultimately, this challenge has given our pupils a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of business in a real-world context. We wish the team well on the 20th, and we are proud and impressed with the depth and content of the work by all groups who have competed so far.

As Mental Health Week has drawn to a close, we have been reflecting on how our pupils and staff have spent some time connecting with nature.

Recent National Trust research found a link between feeling connected with nature and improved wellbeing, therefore throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, people have been encouraged to get outside and find ways to connect with their surroundings. From nature photography competitions and nature walks to swimming challenges and spa nights, our pupils have taken some time to focus on their mental health and wellbeing.

Each of our Houses set up a variety of activities, in order to encourage the pupils to go outside. Photography competitions were a highlight of the week for many, as they were able to capture things such as the beautiful blossom trees and the woodland areas that we have on our wide-spread campus. Other highlights to help unwind included plant pot painting and nature walks.

Aside from House activities, pupils also took part in various challenges in order to raise money for Young Minds UK. The Swimming team began their River Thames Challenge last Monday, in which they attempted to swim the length of the River Thames which is a staggering 346km long! The challenge ran until Saturday, allowing pupils to collectively gain lengths to add to their overall total. Pupils successfully completed the challenge and swum over 348km, which is a mind-blowing 13,942 lengths! They were able to raise £1,724 for the Young Minds charity.

Another challenge that is taking place at the end of May, is the Bartle Frere Weekend Marathon Challenge. Throughout last week, pupils in Bartle Frere began practicing, by running around the campus and through the woods with their peers, making the most of being outside and enjoying the nature in their surroundings. There is more to come on this in the following weeks.

We hope that everyone took the time to connect with nature during Mental Health Awareness Week, and that you continue to do so in order to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

With everything that is going on in the world, it has been a pleasure to welcome back most of our pupils to enjoy the last few weeks of term. The grounds came to life with sounds of laughter, chatter and footsteps, bringing some normality to this strange time. Those who could not be back with us in person, have continued to learn and connect with their peers remotely and have been able to join us via Zoom and through the Connected School.

The first week back was certainly a great one, with lessons back in full swing and sports taking place again; there were smiles all round. Exercise has been something that we wanted to ensure pupils continued throughout lockdown, so it is great that they have now been able to play the sports they love on and off the courts in their various sporting activities.

“The pupils had an amazing array of both innovative asynchronous and creative live sessions available to them throughout lockdown (and they continue for those still at home). The highlights are plentiful across all sports, with football and netball house competitions, which was a real treat for junior and senior pupils” said Mr Searson.

After arriving back on campus, Dining Hall provided a welcome back meal. Carved roast beef from Foxholes Farm was a highlight on the menu, along with a pupil favourite dessert of pear and chocolate crumble with cream. Pupils enjoyed some time to socialise with their House over delicious food; something they have missed over the past few months.

In amongst the various sports sessions, pupils also took part in Field Day during the final weeks of term, where they had the chance to do some scuba diving, archery, woodland cooking and many more activities!

“After an extended period of lockdown the pupils have been delighted to re-engage with the co-curricular activities. I measure this in the usual way; by counting smiles on the pupils’ faces, I think what the pupils missed most was being together, playing sport, making music, spending time outdoors and being creative. They’ve come back to all these activities in their droves and with the usual level of commitment and enthusiasm” said Mr Head.

In Houses, our Housemasters and Housemistresses have been hosting a range of activities for the pupils to welcome them back. From BBQ’s and football matches, to s’mores toasting and ice cream sundae making, pupils are feeling at home.

Mrs Dawson said “we’ve hosted a vast array of activities in Allenby House including a Bodyshop evening, a Dominos pizza party, a house wii dance party, an online tea and chat for those girls still at home and more! The girls have been delighted to be back and to be reunited with their friends. Several of my local boarders have chosen to stay in at the weekends so that they can maximise the time spent with their friends. Personally, I have enjoyed the noise, the laughter, the energy and the excitement!”

Live concerts have also made a comeback during the final weeks of term, with pupils being able to perform live in Bradby Hall and be streamed to viewers at home. One concert, Should I Be The One? was a highlight as it celebrated the works of female composers and musicians from the 13th – 20th century in aid of International Women’s Day. Another highlight was the Not From Bradby Hall concert, which featured pupils playing acoustic instruments, Upper Sixth pupil Issy debuted her original song Sentimental which was enjoyed by all.

Despite not being able to be back on site, those learning remotely have continued to embrace every opportunity and have been keeping in touch with their peers as much as possible. We reached out to Lower Sixth pupil Luca, and Upper Sixth pupil Federico, to see how they have found having to continue remote learning and how they have been keeping in touch with their peers.

“I have always been very enthusiastic about remote learning and the teachers have done an amazing job. I have been learning remotely for two months now, but I always look forward to lessons and also the co-curricular activities that have been taking place on Google Meet. There have been so many House activities via Zoom, including pizza nights, quizzes, art competitions and an Easter baking competition. I am looking forward to re-joining my peers on site as I miss everyone a lot, but it has been quite easy to stay in touch with my friends on site through Zoom or on the phone” said Luca.

Federico mentioned “I believe that even if I had to do remote learning for a while, the way teachers teach is so engaging and so proactive in class that even if you are not physically in the room with them you still feel part of the conversation. At the start of the year I founded the School’s politics society, which has kept me busy alongside remote learning. I have been able to stay in touch with my friends in the House via Zoom for Friday night drinks and for Morning Call, but I can’t wait to join my peers on site and start breathing in the Haileybury spirit.”

We are looking forward to welcoming all pupils back and starting the Summer Term with more normality.

Rounding up an unusual year, Haileybury pupils took part in some fantastic performances this term. From drama productions to concerts and live music performances, pupils have thoroughly entertained the community. Every performance was streamed, enabling people from all of the world to tune in and watch their children or peers.

Middles and Removes took part in two Alan Ayckbourn productions, ‘Gizmo’ and ‘Confusions’, which were performed in The Ayckbourn Theatre. ‘Gizmo’, was a whirlwind of science and comedy. The audience followed the story of Jen, a paralysed woman who had the ‘Gizmo’ inserted into her brain. The ‘Gizmo’ is controlled by a watch, which makes Jen mimic the actions of the wearer. When the watch falls into the wrong hands, the audience were witness to a showdown of drama and comedy.

‘Confusions’ was another impressive performance, performed by Middles. Consisting of 5 one act plays, pupils acted out 5 different story lines in which the characters all cross over in one way or another. Exploring topics such as affairs and isolation in a comedic way, the pupils demonstrated an exceptional use of characterisation.

Pupils from all year groups and houses took part in the Michaelmas and Crash into Christmas concerts this year, bringing more Christmas cheer to Haileybury amongst the other festivities. Watchers enjoyed outstanding solo performances alongside visionary offerings from the piano trio, L6 string quartet, viola, and clarinet. Other performances that captured the eyes of the community were three Live at Bradby Hall concerts. One celebrating Beethoven 250; the performance was streamed live and bought light to the remarkable talents of the musicians involved.

Both pupils and staff are excited to see what is to come next year.

From ice skating to gingerbread making, the festive season has been a joyous time for pupils and staff at Haileybury.

After a whirlwind of a year, our pupils were able to embrace the festive activities across the campus. Starting with Christmas trees being delivered to the houses, pupils were able to get creative and decorate their own trees.

Ice sculpting was a session that our pupils signed up for the talented team at Hamilton ice sculptors carved the Haileybury Hearts and Wings free-hand out of the ice. Pupils were put into teams of two and given a block of ice to carve their own creations. The ice skating rink was stationed on the terrace and was enjoyed by many different year groups, throughout the final week of term.

In amongst the outdoor activities, Haileybury pupils took part in musical performances such as the Michaelmas Concert and Crash into Christmas. Both were recorded and broadcasted for families and friends to watch at home. It was a great way of bringing people together and maintaining the Haileybury community.

Dining Hall has also transformed into a Christmas wonderland, with crackers on tables and an extravagant gingerbread village made by our very own pastry chef Andy and his assistants. The gingerbread village took a week and a half to make and has been a highlight for pupils as they have walked through Dining Hall.

Alongside the incredible gingerbread village, pupils have been able to enjoy a Christmas dinner. Our catering staff created characters out of vegetables and placed them alongside festive treats such as pretzel topped brownies and snowy cupcakes.

The pupils were not the only ones who enjoyed the festivities this month, our staff members took part in our annual tradition, Pastimes. From funny sketches to making their very own Tik Tok’s, it was a fantastic way to end the term and bring even more laughs and festivities to our pupils.

The entire Haileybury community has embraced our Connected School platform to produce a remarkable range of work. It’s been a sensational six weeks of co-operation, creativity and commitment.

Learning from home was considered an exciting opportunity to rethink education in the short term: Haileybury teachers set about designing bespoke timetables which ensured routine, resources and regular contact.

And after a half-term of video lessons and virtual sessions, pupils have developed skills which will serve them well throughout the rest of their Haileybury careers and beyond.

We have seen some pupils carrying out exciting practical experiments at home such as incubating pheasant eggs and fostering a family of tadpoles. The wider academic work has also involved water conservation projects supported by GlaxoSmithKline and attending Royal Society of Biology webinars on vaccines.

New societies have been established: Groups have met over Zoom to discuss poetry, art, criminal law and stargazing. One pupil built a solar-powered water purifier which turns sunlight into thermal energy to heat a tray.

Pupils have also made the most of workshops with artists and authors, computer programming courses with Microsoft and university-run sessions on behavioural economics and history. Pupils studying psychology and criminology caught up with Hunted star and former detective Peter Bleksley. They asked some good questions and got a great insight.

The very first Haileybury Spectator was published. It’s packed with pupil insights, articles and creative contributions. And you only need to scroll through the Connected Magazine to get a feel for the breadth and depth of pupil activities.

Our musicians have honed their skills and kept us all entertained at the same time. Pieced together from individual performances, Living in Harmony, Eye Of The Tiger, and an Irish Blessing were exceptional.

Our new Chaplain, The Reverend Chris Stoltz, has captivated the whole Haileybury community with his thought-provoking videocasts. The CAS Sixth Formers have excelled themselves with a range of innovative initiatives.

Old Haileyburians have done their bit too. They’ve provided invaluable insights into life at university for our pupils. The Haileybury Connect What It’s Like webinars have covered economics, business management, marketing, biochemistry, medicine, engineering, politics and international relations.

There’s been no let up for our talented sportsmen and women. Despite being starved of the competitive action they crave, they have been disciplined and creative. Two pupils ran a half marathon. Together, they’ve completed triathlons with a twist and charity challenges.

‘Wow! Thank you so much to all of you for your support!’ That’s how the NHS Charities reacted on Twitter to news of our U15 hockey girls running or cycling the equivalent distance of Haileybury to the Highlands (640km) to raise funds. Not only did they smash their target, but they did it with a day to spare.

Each day of the Connected School has begun with a brilliant Get Active session from Mr Satt via YouTube. You might have heard him feature on the Be Ready Podcast available on iTunes? He discussed the experience of working in Japan with England Rugby head coach Eddie Jones.

Pupils have enjoyed some unique sporting opportunities themselves. They’ve had Zoom Q&A sessions with international athletes from the worlds of rugby, hockey, netball, athletics and cricket.

We held a Just Be wellbeing day for the first time. It involved a full timetable of uplifting activities to promote positive mental health and pupils jumped in with both feet.

There has been an avalanche of high-standard entries for Photo of the Week and Drawing of the Week. Lockdown recipes are being compiled into a book to support the NHS.
