U13 Girls Reach Sports Finals Twice in One Week

Lower School sport is going from strength to strength, with our girls’ U13 hockey and netball teams both reaching the finals in tournaments this week.

The U13 hockey team travelled to Queenswood on Tuesday (26 February) for the County Schools Hockey tournament. Despite fierce opposition from schools including Royal Masonic, Parmiters and Dame Alice Owen they battled their way to the final, every player displaying a determination which produced goals from Zoe Cole, Siena Milner, Chloe Landymore and Sophie Maytum, thanks to the support of fellow team-members Stephanie Berger, Emily Hughes, Isobel Bird, Rosie Walker and Rosy Wodham.

Coach Katie Howell remarked: "The girls were fantastic. They worked extremely hard and they deserved to reach the final!" They returned to Haileybury as proud runners-up, with a clutch of well-deserved medals and a large banner to be prominently displayed in Lower School.

The following day our U13 netball team played at a tournament hosted by Felsted. Coach Annie Thomas said, "The girls played really well winning all five of their section matches with outstanding shooting from Erica Wilson and Molly Muzzlewhite. The semi-final v Forest was won 6-3 with controlled mid-court play and tight defence. The final was a very cagey affair with mistakes by both teams under pressure. Felsted played marginally better than we did to win 5-3."

The parental support was wonderful and congratulations to the whole squad on their achievement: Erica Wilson, Molly Muzzlewhite, Sophie Maytum, Rosie Walker, Zoe Cole, Emily Hughes, Chloe Landymore, Isobel Bird and Olivia Kounnis.
