Top marks for Haileybury teacher Mrs Brigden

Teacher of Geography Mrs Charlotte Brigden had a role reversal recently when she went back to the classroom to study for a Masters of Arts (MA) in Education.

Charlotte, who passed the University of Exeter degree with flying colours and achieved a Distinction, produced a portfolio of work on how to stretch and challenge gifted and talented pupils in education, focused through a geographical lens.

Her masters also required a 12,000 word dissertation on the value of fieldwork. Her research is relevant to both Geography and Biology, but can also be linked to any subject.

Charlotte said: “I really enjoyed working with the pupils, giving them a voice. I found that Sixth Form pupils in particular can see the holistic value of fieldwork.”

Charlotte herself has had the opportunity to go on some incredible fieldtrips during her time teaching Geography and while delivering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award both at Haileybury and at Sandringham School in St Albans where she previously worked.

She has visited places such as Uganda, Iceland, Costa Rica, Germany, Brittany, Dorset and the Lake District, and went to Naples last week on the half term Lower School Classics and Geography trip.

She says: “My masters was an excellent opportunity to develop my teaching to become the best practitioner possible.”
