Three prominent judges for Shakespeare event

Hannah Grundy, who played Emilia in Othello, Charlie Hicks, as Capulet, and Cameron Rycroft, as the Friar in Romeo and Juliet, were the Cup winners of this year’s Shakespeare in the Park.

More than 65 Year 9 drama students (Removes) performed excerpts from some of Shakespeare’s plays, including Hamlet, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Loves’ Labours Lost, Merry Wives of Windsor, Merchant of Venice and Richard III, to an audience of parents and staff who had gathered to watch the spectacle on the Terrace Gardens on a sunny Friday afternoon in June.

Wearing authentic Shakespearean costume, they performed in the Gardens, led by two jesters. Adjudication took place at the end of the performances with full and excellent feedback from the three illustrious judges, who included Angela Wallis, Executive Director of BBC New Talent, Pete Gallagher, Actor/Director/Writer who has taken lead roles in productions such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the West End and many television and film roles, and Joan Lane, Director of Wild Thyme, a touring theatre company, consultant for the BBC and currently director of the children’s section of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations due for screening at end of June.

Well done to all concerned.
