Just as the majority of Haileyburians take it easy for Christmas, Rhiannon Massey (L6, Aby) has been invited to her first fully-supported international sailing event as part of Team GBR and has jetted off to Palamos, south of Barcelona. The annual Palamos race takes place from 18 to 23 December and is a senior Olympic Class regatta. Rhiannon is part of a five-strong women's team along with their Team GBR coach, a support RIB, five Laser dinghies and their kit which all had to be transported from Weymouth to Palamos. OH Tom Billings (BF 04) beat World No.6 Nick James 3-0 at The Queens Club in the semi-final of the British Amateur singles Rackets competition on Saturday (8 December), leading him to his first appearance in a major senior tournament. Earlier in the season, Tom reached the semi-final of the Invitational Singles (for the top eight players in the world), where he lost to World No.3 Will Hopton. THe semi-final win moves Tom up to World No.7 in only his second year on the senior tour: an incredible achievement.
