Haileybury in National Debating Competition

On Tuesday (27 November) the Haileybury team of Henry Firth (U6, K) and Naomi Shammas (V, C) won their first round tie in the ESU Schools' Mace, the biggest national debating competition. They proposed that 'This House would ban public sector workers from wearing religious symbols'. They argued that since there is no option other than to use the public sector, it must be as open and accessible as possible, especially to vulnerable groups. LS Walkers Have Fun Fundraising

All the pupils in Lower School 1 and 2 walked (or ran) laps of Twenty Acre on Friday to raise money for Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT). Fancy dress was the order of the day, with an 'international' theme, and there were some wonderfully imaginative outfits on show. The weather was relatively kind and no one was lost in the descending mist as the afternoon drew on. A Whole Lot of Dough: Pizza Sales Raise £680 for HYT

A 'Dough Raising Weekend' at Dominos Pizza in Hertford raised £680 for the Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT) by donating £1 to HYT for every single pizza sold from the store on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 November. This fantastic sum is the cost of a 20,000 litre rainwater storage tank that can provide clean water to a school. Congratulations to the Colvin team of Naomi Shammas and Rachel Buckley-Taylor who won this year's Senior Debating competition. They successfully opposed Edmonstone who proposed 'This House would ban all children's toys which perpetuate gender stereotypes'. Congratulations to Lower School pupil Isobel Taylor who will attend the Royal Geographical Society in London this week for the Young Geographer of the Year awards, as one of only three 'Highly Commended' entries in the 9-11 age category. Isobel's achievement follows that of fellow Haileybury pupil Alessio Young, who was 'Highly Commended' for his entry in 2010.
