Sir Hugh Orde to visit Haileybury

We are delighted to confirm that Sir Hugh Orde will be visiting Haileybury on Thursday, 23 February at 7.30pm in Big School to present a lecture on 'Britain after the riots: where should policing go from here?' His visit forms part of Haileybury's 150th anniversary lecture series. Sir Hugh was awarded an OBE in 2001 for services to policing, and in 2005 was knighted for his work. In 2008 he was awarded the annual Leadership Award from the Police Executive Research Forum recognising his work in changing policing in Northern  > more

OH Chris Darnell publishes his first book

Chris Darnell, an Old Haileyburian, member of the Haileybury Council and currently President of the OH Society as well as being a Trustee, has recently had his first novel published. The Return is the first of three planned thrillers featuring Paul Stanton, SAS. Later this year he intends to publish the second Paul Stanton thriller, The Contract, as well as a short story about Stanton and Ghurkhas. Success for hockey players against King's Canterbury

It has been a successful last few days for Haileybury's boys' hockey teams with, in particular, the Colts B team winning 11-0 against King's Canterbury. This was a fantastic performance and result following two difficult matches at the start of the season. All the boys played well, but Tim Hunter, Harry Chapman, James Story and Dan Harvey linked particularly well to score several fine goals. Lizzie and Juliana in U18 football squad

Congratulations to pupils Lizzie Dunning and Juliana Velasco who have both been selected for the Home Counties Under 18 representative football team. The trials and training day were held on 22 January and a squad of 18 was chosen. The trialists were put through their paces by QPR coach Neil Dejyothin and ex-QPR first team player, Cez Guard, whilst the goalkeepers had a specialist session run by Rob Potter. 16 prep schools to compete for The Haileybury Shield

A record 16 prep schools have signed up for the Under 11 IAPS boys' hockey (London and SE Division) tournament, competing for the Haileybury Shield 2012, to be held at Haileybury on Tuesday, 21 February. The four teams which make it through to the semi-finals of the main competition will automatically qualify for the National stages later this year. The 16 teams will compete in four pools. OH Tom into the semis of British Open

Following on from OH Tom Billings's magnificent victory over 5th seed, James Beaumont, in the British Open Rackets tournament on Monday evening, he put on another impressive display in his quarter final match against 3rd seed and world number 5, James Coyne, yesterday. Tom lost the first game 15-9, but won the second game 15-11, the third game 15-10 and scraped through to win the fourth game 16-15. OH Tom through to 1/4 finals of British Open

Congratulations to last year's leaver, Tom Billings (BFr), who beat the world number 15 and 5th seed last night to go through to the quarter finals of the British Open Rackets Championships, being held at Eton College. This follows on from his success of winning the Under 24 doubles title and reaching the final of the Under 21 rackets competition. Tom faces 3rd seed and world number 5, James Coyne, in his quarter final match tonight.  > more

Equestrian success for Fenna

Congratulations to Lower School 2 pupil Fenna Good, who performed superbly in the National Schools Equestrian Association meeting in Bury St Edmunds at the weekend, winning the 70cm event and placing second in the 80cm event. Fenna beat 28 other riders in the former event and rode against some very good and much older riders in the second. He is thrilled at his performance. Well done!  > more

As the first weekend of the New Year, last weekend epitomised Haileybury's commitment to, and success in, all-round excellence. Whether it was academic success, sport or charity work, Haileybury pupils were involved all the way. We had seven Oxbridge offers confirmed, across a spread of IB and A Level pupils.
