The Haileybury Sailing Team recently welcomed six new fibreglass FireFly dinghies to its fleet. The Master, Joe Davies, launched the sailing boats which were funded through the generosity of Haileybury donors. All those who supported this appeal were invited to attend the event, which was marked by a race against Eton. The Master in charge of Sailing, Angus Head, gave a short speech during which he also announced the names of the six boats: Ariel, Jabula, La Manche, Butler, Phoenix and Tess. Haileybury pupil Rhiannon Massey (15) has been selected for the Volvo Laser Radial National Youth Squad (NYS) for 2011/12, the highest level national sailing squad for Under 19s, the next squad being the Olympic Development Squad. This programme is designed to enable the best British sailors to develop their racing skills so they can achieve on the international stage. Haileybury Youth Trust's unique construction technology, the Interlocking Stabilised Soil Block, is currently featured in an exhibition curated by the National Design Museum, New York, a subsidiary of the Smithsonian. The exhibition, 'Designs for the 90%', which features innovative and sustainable designs for the developing world, is on show at the United Nations building in New York until January. Haileybury will host a 'Some Enchanted Evening' concert on Saturday, 29 October at 7.30pm in aid of the charity, Aschiana, which works with disadvantaged children in Afghanistan. The charity was founded by Dr John and Mrs Fiona Earle, and both have been awarded MBEs in recognition of this work. It is a charity that we at Haileybury have been in touch with, through the Earles, for many years. The concert will feature the Bass Baritone, Alex Ashworth, and there will be a varied programme of music. Tickets (on the door) are £10 for adults

Well done to Mayowa Balogun (K), who has been chosen for the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) South Under 16 team to face Kent Schools on Sunday, 13 November at Chigwell School. This follows an excellent standard of football at the second round of trials.

Congratulations to Upper Sixth pupils Craig Swaby (B) and Jesse Waites (BFr), who have been chosen for the ISFA Under 18 South Squad to play Essex Schools on Sunday, 13 November at Brentwood School. The boys were chosen after a successful afternoon of trial games at Eton last Sunday. After the match on the 13th, the selectors will be choosing a squad to play ISFA North at Repton School on Sunday, 27 November.

Everyone is welcome to join the HPA at a fashion evening on Thursday, 13 October. Susan Bull, who established John Lewis's fashion advisory service and who runs two retail outlets of her own, will offer advice on how to make your wardrobe work for you, how to wear the latest trends and create your own style. There will be a brief fashion show, but no clothes will be available for sale on the evening. The evening starts at 7.30pm in the Sixth Form Centre, with drinks and canapes. Last Saturday night saw 10 teams of Haileybury parents battle it out in the Attlee Room at the HPA inter-House quiz night. The result came down to the last round when "Dexter's Midnight Runners" (aka Colvin) were narrowly beaten in to second place by the "Masterful" team led by The Master, Joe Davies.
