Teachers' strike - Haileybury sympathetic but business as usual

The following is a statement from the Master of Haileybury, Joe Davies: Haileybury shares the widespread views in the independent sector over the possible changes in the Teachers' Pension Scheme and especially the suggestion in the Hutton Report that staff from our schools might be excluded from participating in the scheme in the future. Haileybury Military Tournament

The Haileybury Military Tournament, an annual event, takes place this Sunday, 3 July from 2pm onwards. It promises to be a spectacular event, featuring a variety of thrilling and colourful displays and performances from across the country. Set in our beautiful grounds, it will provide three hours of non-stop entertainment for all the family, including military bands, pipes and drums, a free-fall parachute display and much more. Batten boys cycle for charity

Good luck to the Batten Lower Sixth boys and several staff who have entered the London - Brighton cycle ride event which takes place on Sunday. The challenge came about after Mr Head and Mr Bond's wives did the race last year and thought the boys would love it. They have since been training every Wednesday evenign - come rain or shine! Lower School Sports Day changed

Please will parents note that the date of the Lower School Sports Day has been changed from Saturday, 2 July to Saturday, 25 June. The first event is scheduled for 10.30am but the majority of events will take place between 11am and 12.45pm. Three winners in county athletics champs

Haileybury athletes performed brilliantly at the Herts Schools County Championships last week, with no fewer than 20 finalists out of a possible 26 events entered. There were three winners: Callum Scutt broke the School Long Jump record with 5.83m (as well as three other jumps out of his six over the old school record). This eclipsed the mark set by Matthew Morrison last year, and means Callum is county champion. He has now been selected to represent Hertfordshire in the long jump at the English Schools Championships in Gateshead on 1  > more

Art Society meeting cancelled this Thursday

Please note there will be no Art Society meeting this Thursday evening as advertised in the Calendar. Instead, internationally recognised sculptor John Doubleday will be coming to Haileybury on Tuesday 28 June to talk about and demonstrate wax casting and bronze tribal casting in India. Pupils excel in Lamda exams

Haileybury pupils have outdone themselves once again in the recent LAMDA exams, obtaining numerous medals, including four Golds, two Silvers and one Bronze. The Lower and Middle School pupils did especially well. Two examiners, one of whom is an actor in a West End theatre, commended all the candidates on their professionalism and the quality of their work. Botazhan Makhambetova (C), one of Haileybury's international pupils for whom English is not a first language, received a distinction in Spoken English Grade V. Other results  > more

Callum Scutt jumps a personal best

Congratulations to Callum Scutt (Tr), who last week achieved a personal best in the long jump of 5.92m whilst competing at Winchester for his club, Shaftesbury Harriers. His achievement means he has also qualified for the English Schools Championships. This is Callum's first jump of the season for his club and places him currently at 7th best in England for Under 15 boys. Well done Callum!  > more
