The boys' hockey team had one of its most successful afternoons in their history with a stunning set of results against Kings, Canterbury last Saturday, with our teams scoring 31 goals across the seven fixtures. The 1st XI led the way with a great 2-1 victory. Tom Billings was a permanently probing presence in midfield where he gave a typically forceful performance. His incisive pass through the top of the Kings D was deftly deflected into the goal by Mark Agass, who also slotted the second goal from a slickly executed penalty corner routine.

The jazz band and choir performed to their highest levels, with foot tapping performances of Fascinating Rhythm, Goodnight Sweetheart, Smooth, Boplicity to name but a few. In between, soloists wowed the audience with their polished performances, including a beautiful rendition of Three Moments from West Side Story by Owen Liggett on the trumpet and They Can't Take that Away From Me sung

They will write frequent blogs about their time in the UK and how they find it different from what they are used to Down Under. In the first installment, Ailsa gives her initial thoughts: After two incredibly busy weeks at Haileybury in England, I'm beginning to adjust to a lifestyle that is, at times, quite different to my own in Haileybury, Melbourne, Australia. I must begin by thanking the Master, Mr Davies, staff, pupils and in particular

As you may have seen in the national press, the Department for Education's Performance League Tables were published yesterday. We wish to explain why Haileybury, like many other leading independent schools, appears at the bottom of these league tables. The league tables are based on pupil performance in GCSEs and other accredited qualifications, but do not include the iGCSE, which is currently not recognised by the government. With nine of last year's squad returning, there was a certain amount of optimism around at the start of the Autumn term. A hot day and a slow start against a strong Sevenoaks on the first Saturday of term meant that a rousing half-time team talk from the coach was necessary to galvanise the team into action. The result was a very spirited second half fight-back which saw the team narrowly miss getting a draw with a disallowed goal five minutes from time. Growing in confidence, the team then strung three victories together, beating Mill Hill,
