Oxford choral scholarship for Johanna

Congratulations to Upper Sixth pupil Johanna Hockmann (Alb), who has been offered a choral scholarship to Oxford. She has been offered a place to read Music at Pembroke College, subject to IB results and interviews. Johanna gained a Music Scholarship to Haileybury last year, fulfilling her potential by taking Grade 8 flute and passing with Distinction (attaining an impressive 142 marks). Under 13s win through in first round of ISFA Cup

Haileybury's Under 13 boys were involved in a nail-biting first round match in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) cup yesterday, against Highgate. Our boys came out 2-1 winners. Highgate played some beautiful football but fell behind to Haileybury through a well-taken goal from Calum Scutt. Highgate eventually equalised in the second half, only for Haileybury to score the winner with just 2 minutes remaining through Christian Scales. Well done to all the boys who played!  > more

Girls' 1st XI beat Kings Ely 6-0

Haileybury's girls' 1st XI beat Kings Ely on Saturday 6-0, with captain of hockey Susie Carr (Aby) scoring an incredible five goals. Susie scored an early goal to settle the team down in the first five minutes and added a second midway through the first half. Charlotte Newton (H) scored a neat finish from close range to complete a fine first half. Susie added a second half hat trick with some clinical finishing. Annie Thomas finishes 18th in World Triathlon

Haileybury PE teacher, Annie Thomas, writes about her experiences as part of Team GB at the Triathlon World Championships in Australia recently. Awesome is really the only word I can use to describe being part of Team GB. I have attended several major events behind the scenes but this was my first time as a competitor and, at times, I thought I would be happier working as a volunteer as usual. Oxford's Schola Cantorum raises the Chapel roof

Haileybury Chapel was treated to an uplifting experience last Thursday night. After Oxford's Schola Cantorum had coached Haileybury music pupils on a sunny afternoon, they proceeded - under James Burton's expert direction - to give an impressive performance later that evening in Chapel. Schola Cantorum, Oxford's finest Chamber Choir, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a tour of concerts across the UK that features music from composers who studied at Oxford University. The Old Haileyburian Concert planned for 11 October at 7pm in the Chapel promises to be a fine gathering of OH musicians, relatives and friends as we celebrate the splendid music traditions that have been enjoyed at Haileybury. The concert is dedicated to Jack Hindmarsh, Director of Music at Haileybury from 1966-89. It is hoped that this gathering will form the nucleus for some of the music celebrations being planned for Haileybury's 150th anniversary in 2012. Clean sweep for Lower School footballers

Schola Cantorum to perform at Haileybury

Schola Cantorum, Oxford University’s leading chamber choir, will visit Haileybury on Thursday, 24 September, to perform as part of their 50th anniversary celebration of recitals all over the UK. Haileybury’s Chamber Choir will perform alongside this distinguished choir. Lacrosse wins against Uppingham

Last weekend, the First and Second girls' lacrosse teams played Uppingham in what is usually a closely fought game. However, well rested after half term, both teams rose to the challenge and played some the of the best lacrosse seen by Haileybury in a number of years. The Firsts demonstrated crisp passing, movement and team work, as well as finishing off a number of opportunities cleanly to record a convincing 16 -5 win. OH Ben talks about his year in Kazakhstan

Ben Campbell, an OH who has worked at Haileybury Almaty for all of last year, and then travelled extensively all over the Caucasus region, including Iran, will give a talk tomorrow at the first Political Society event of the academic year. Among many other things, Ben was instrumental in getting the England football team to visit Haileybury Almaty when they played Kazakhstan earlier this year. Mayowa wows ISFA selectors

Congratulations to Removes pupil Mayowa Balogun (K), who has been selected as one of 16 footballers selected from the original 20-man squad to play against Derby County FC and Leicester City FC during a two-day tournament in October. He has also been selected to attend a two-day development camp during the Christmas holidays towards next year's selection for the Under 15 Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) squad.
