Dr Schroeder calls for integration of Europe

Europe will only be able to hold its own against the economic might of America and Asia as a single market and a political unit, according to the former Chancellor of Germany, Dr Gerhard Schroeder. New Master announced

Mr James Selwyn Davies MA has been appointed as the new Master of Haileybury from September 2009. This follows the retirement of the current Master, Stuart Westley, at the end of the Summer Term 2009. Mr Davies is currently Headmaster of Sutton Valence School in Maidstone, Kent. Mr Davies, who is 51 years of age, was educated at Christ College, Brecon and St John's College, Cambridge, where he read history and received a blue for Rugby football. Girls' football launched at Haileybury

This term has seen the launch of the first girls' football team at Haileybury, made up of Fifth and Sixth Form pupils coached by George Allen and Michael Tookey. There is also a Lower School Club taken by Julian Alliot. The senior girls recently won their first game against Sevenoaks 3-2 after being 2-0 down at one stage. Sarah Monk, Mary Bird and Captain Vanessa Butz were the goal scorers. This Saturday the girls play a Hoddesdon Owls XI and, after half-term, they play St Albans and return fixture against Sevenoaks.  > more

Antonio wins senior county title

Antonio Infantino last weekend won the senior county championships in the 100m. This achievement came after he added a senior school 100m record of 10.80s on Saturday at Harrow to his tally. He also recorded a Chomley Shield best with his 21.65s time in the 200m the week before. Congratulations to Antonio, who says he is looking forward to his first GB vest this coming weekend.  > more

Jamie selected for U18 England squad

Jamie George has been named as part of the England Under 18 Development Squad to tour Argentina this Summer. The announcement came from the Elite Rugby Department of the Rugby Football Union today (Thursday). The squad of 32 will play four games against Mendoza, Tucuaman, Buenos Aires and an international test against Argentina. The dates and venues for these fixtures are still to be confirmed but the England young guns will be in Argentina from 14 July to 6 August. Lewis and Will represent Herts hockey

Congratulations to Lewis Green and Will Munn, who were both part of the Hertfordshire Under 13 team which played in the East of England Under 13 Hockey Championships. The championships took place during the Easter holidays. They deserve huge congratulations for being part of the team that won the event. At the age of 88, Sir David Willcocks remains a remarkable gentleman with a sensational sense of humour, a phenomenal ear and an athletic body that's able to kick a large body of singers into shape in one rehearsal.
