Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, may I begin by adding my welcome to that of the Chairman. Speech Day is the most important day of our year when we gather to recognise and to celebrate the achievements of our pupils. We are honoured that so many have chosen to support us today. The attendance, at 1,560, is another record. Arranging the seating for that number is a formidable task which has been undertaken with admirable efficiency by Mrs Yvonne Nixon. OH Stuart Pilgrim represents England

Congratulations to OH Stuart Pilgrim, who played recently for the England A Men's hockey team against Reading as part of their preparation for the European Cup. England A won 6-0. Stuart also played for one of the three England representative teams, the Saxon Tigers, who were runners up in the GB Super League. The Super League is part of the Great Britain preparation for the Olympics. Well done, Stuart!  > more

Athletes smash four records

Haileybury athletes outdid themselves last Saturday when they competed against pupils from Sevenoaks, Caterham, Christ's Hospital, Worth and Ardingly in the annual inter-schools gathering at Sevenoaks. Haileybury broke four records during the afternoon - in the 100m, 200m, 4 x100m and 4 x 400m. Those placed first, second or third in their events are as follows: Juniors 200m Josh Maraney 2nd 80m Hurdles Josh Maraney 2nd Javelin Yusif Ali 3rd Shot Putt Jack Murphy 1st Intermediates 100m Antonio Infantino 1st (new track record of 10.9s)  > more

Double Gold for Antonio

Antonio Infantino (Tr) won double Gold in the Under 17 Men's 100m and 200m during the Hertfordshire County Championships on Sunday at the Woodside Stadium in Watford. Despite the terrible weather conditions, he broke the 200m record which has stood since 1983. His times on the day were faster than the Under 20 and Senior Men's competitions. Antonio also found out recently that he has preliminary selection from the British Olympic Association to represent Great Britain in the European Youth Olympic Festival in July. Haileybury’s First Dance Show

Haileybury's first Dance Show involved over 40 dancers from the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. The show was an eclectic mix of Tap, Song and Dance, Modern, Ballet and Street Dancing, as well as ensembles and individual numbers of great variety with rousing Irish tapping and silky Modern Jazz. Athletics success for LS girls

Twenty six Lower School girls travelled to Queenswood last week for their first athletics fixture. They competed against Forest and Queenswood schools. Leaving musicians feature in Summer Concert

The annual Summer Concert will be held this Friday, and will give some of our leavers a splendid solo opportunity to perform a concerto movement or jazz moment. Eight soloists will feature - Josh Edwards, Olivia Godlee, Mark Harrington, Rosie Jukes, Oliver Lepage-Dean, Matthew Nendick, Ayumi Tomari and Emily Wetherall. The concert will offer the last public performance of all the Department of Music's major ensembles before the Upper Sixth and Fifths depart on study leave. Haileybury features on TrueTube

Haileybury has featured on a new interactive website aimed at teenagers who want to have their say in the world. Truetube, a website where young people get to have a say on "real issues" and where video sharing is paramount, attended Haileybury's recent Model United Nations gathering, together with 515 delegates from around the world. Success at Achilles Relays

Haileybury athletes had a very good meeting at the Achilles Relays in Oxford this week and enjoyed a good deal of success throughout the afternoon against 24 other teams from across the country. In the heats we achieved two 1st places, five 2nds and two 3rd place finishes and qualified for the finals in all our events bar one. We went on to manage a first and a second place finish in the boys' finals and a fifth place finish in the girls' finals.
