Haileybury's athletics star, Antonio Infantino, has set yet another personal best (PB) in the Under 17 60m event and is now ranked seventh on the all-time 60m list. He set the new time during the Norwich Union England Athletics Indoor Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on Saturday. Antonio sailed through his heat in a time of 6.95s and was the fastest qualifier in to one of three semi-finals, where he set the first of his new PBs in a time of 6.93s. Following the recent England training camp in the Midlands, Fifths pupil, Jamie George (BFr), has been selected for the England Under 16 rugby squad for the forthcoming 4 Nations tournament in April. Sixty two players attended the camp and were divided into two squads for trial matches on Sunday 18 February. Jamie was selected to play in the senior England team against Millfield Under 17s, whilst the England 'A' team played against the Midlands. The Haileybury Parents' Association (HPA) is looking for a new Secretary, beginning September 2007. If you would like to get more involved in life at Haileybury, especially social events for parents, and have good organisational, admin and PC skills - we need you. The final stage of the plan to exclude non-Haileybury computers from the network is now complete, and internet access and other Haileybury resources are now only available to Haileybury machines. Although the plan and its effects have been well-publicised for some time, there are a few who have found themselves without a Haileybury machine, and therefore, without access to the network. OH Alison Stephens will give a solo recital featuring the mandolin for the Hertford Music Club on Sunday 11 March at 3pm. Alison will give a brief history of the instrument, followed by a varied programme of music. The recital will take place at the Friends Meeting House, Railway Street, Hertford. Admission £7. Haileybury's half-term in the coming Autumn term, 2007, will now start at 4.30 pm on Friday 19 October and not Thursday 25 October. The return date remains Sunday (evening) 4 November for boarders and Monday morning 5 November for day pupils. A particular requirement at the time led to Haileybury fixing its original dates before any other relevant schools', including Hertfordshire maintained schools', dates had been published. Professor David Howell from the University of York gave a presentation to Haileybury staff and pupils just before half term on Haileybury's most successful old boy, Clement Attlee. In an engaging talk, filled with anecdotes about Attlee's life, he introduced us to one of Britain's most unassuming Prime Ministers. He began with stories of Attlee's life and his eventual conversion to moderate socialism in the years preceding the First World War. Attlee was a man whose success was unexpected. Congratulations to the boys' hockey 1st XI squad for a fantastic half season. The team have played four matches, winning all of them, against King's Canterbury (3-1), St Albans (3-2), Kimbolton (6-0) and The Leys (2-1). David Wilson has scored 4 goals, James Treadgold 3, Captain Jonas Erich 2, Michael Taylor 2 and Alexander Pilgrim 2 so far. In addition to this, they finished runners-up in the County tournament, coming second only to last year's national finalists. On the way to the final, they beat Haberdashers, Watford GS and St Albans.

Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupil, Robert Macpherson-Smith who, after attending training and match trials in Sheffield and Bath, has been selected for the Scottish Exiles Under 18 rugby squad, playing in their Inter District match against Glasgow on 11th February 2007. This is the third stage of the Scottish Rugby pathway - the route to selection for the Scotland Under 18 squad.
