A Memorial Service for David Jewell, Master of Haileybury from 1987-1996, took place on Saturday 16 September 2006 in the Chapel at Haileybury. A transcript of the addresses given by current Master, Stuart Westley, by David Jewell's daughter, Sarah, and by The Rt Revd Bishop John Taylor appear below. Six boys in East hockey squad

Haileybury had an unprecedented number of hockey players asked to be part of the East of England hockey squad during the Summer holidays. They include Luke Anthony, Toby Finnis, Michael Davies, Joe Doyle, Craig Swaby and Ed Graves. All the boys are in Lower School 2 and were part of the East of England U12/U13 squads this summer. Hockey girls thrash Kings Ely

Haileybury's 1st girls' hockey XI played at home for the first time this term last Saturday against Kings Ely. Haileybury dominated the early exchanges and scored after 10 minutes from a classy deflection by Emily James at a short corner. Slick passing and exceptional running off the ball continually had Kings Ely under pressure and Sarah Monk scored just before half time. Haileybury opens new astro hockey pitch

Haileybury's new first-class hockey surface opened to pupils at the beginning of this term and has already proved a hit with players. "The state of the art pitch, installed on the all-weather surface, together with the improved lighting, have been greatly appreciated by the Haileybury pupils," says the Master, Stuart Westley. "The surface has proved consistent with a better bounce and it is more sympathetic towards limbs and joints. Haileybury start hockey season with win

Haileybury got off to a winning start away at Queenswood last Saturday. Queenswood started strongly, forcing a couple of saves out of captain Vicky Hewett in the Haileybury goal. However, Haileybury began to get control of the ball in midfield, with Magenta McDougall and Stephanie Otte causing problems for the Queenswood defence. Midway through the first half, Emily James finished a fine passing movement with an easy tap in for the first goal. Athletes excel

Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupil, Jack Hobbs (K), who won the silver medal at the National Athletics Champs in Birmingham last Sunday, with a personal best jump of 1.90 m. He has subsequently been ranked as the number 2 high jumper in the Under 17 age group in the UK. Haileybury's other star athlete, Antonio Infantino (Tr), is now ranked 4th in the world in the 100m in his age group (also Under 17), with a time of 10.69 seconds.  > more
