Lacrosse teams get season off to a good start

Haileybury's lacrosse players continue to make their mark, with three players selected for county trials on 2 October. Under 15 player, Livia Bridgman Baker, and first team players Lauren Smith and Lucy Phillips will be showing what they are made of next weekend when they try out for the Herts side. Last weekend also saw some great action from the Haileybury players, with the first team coming fifth in a tournament of 16 teams. Of particular significance was the fact that they held Berkhamstead to seven goals - a great accomplishment!  > more

Inaugural recital for new Steinway

Tom Poster, who is rapidly emerging as one of the most talented and versatile pianists of his generation, will perform at Haileybury this Thursday evening as part of the inaugural recital for the school's new Steinway piano. The piano was purchased following a bequest from an OH, David Smythe. Haileybury's Director of Music, Quentin Thomas, says the Steinway is one of the most enviable pianos for any organisation to have. Haileybury Choir on the Radio and TV

Haileybury's Chapel Chamber choir will be taking centre stage in the media again, starting with a half hour broadcast this Sunday (25/9) on Radio 2 at 8.30pm. Then next month, the Choir will appear on two Songs of Praise programmes, one on 30 October and another on 20 November. The programme are usually broadcast on Sunday evenings from 5 - 6pm. The appearance on 30 October features "The Nation's Favourite Hymns" and was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall this month, while the programme on 20 November will contain material recorded  > more

Sam to play for England U15 cricket

Fourteen-year-old Sam Billings (BFr) has been named in the full England U15 cricket squad as well as being selected for the Kent Cricket Academy. Only 12 players between the ages of 14 & 19 were chosen for the Kent side. His selection follows him being named in the South of England U15 squad to tour the West Indies next April. Ben Thomas to try out for England U19 rugby

Haileybury's first Frank Warren Sports Scholar, Ben Thomas (BFr), has been invited to return for a second trial match for the England U19 rugby team. He was originally due to attend an England U18 training week at Loughborough, but after intense interest from England U19 coaches, he was fast-tracked into the U19 setup, playing his first U19 trial match in August. Haileybury archivist launches new book

A new book by Haileybury's archivist, Andrew Hambling, has been launched to mark the bicentenary of the foundation of the East India College. Entitled "The East India College at Haileybury – 1806-1857", this fascinating account contains dozens of photos, drawings and other illustrations from the Haileybury Archives and elsewhere. 1st XV in successful pre-season tour

Haileybury's 1st XV undertook a pre-season rugby tour of Cornwall, under the guidance of this year's captain, David Gregory (BFr). The team played three times, firstly against Redruth Colts, last year's national clubs quarter finalists, a match which was won 40 – 12 by Haileybury. The next fixtures were as part of a triangular with Truro School and Marlborough College, in which Haileybury ran out winners by 18 – 8 and 24 – 12 respectively.
