Rotary Tournament Winners

Mark Wisbey (Tr), Mohammed Maibe (BF), Kevin Dickens (Th) and David Gregory (BF) were winners of the local Rotary Club Technology Tournament for 2003. In a competition that involved 34 teams from local schools the team successfully completed a complicated challenge in the fastest time. Their brief was to design a mobile crane that was capable of being driven forwards under a low bridge, retrieving a small object from a container and returning it to the starting point. Kathryn Goldby gains AMusTCL diploma

Kathryn Goldby has become the first Haileybury student to sit and pass the AMusTCL diploma. The exam was administered by Trinity College of Music in London. She had previously taken A Level music a year early, gaining exceptionally high marks in achieving her A grade. This diploma, pitched at first-year university level, was awarded on the basis of a three-hour academic exam which tests analytical and historical knowledge and skills in harmony and orchestration. EES team gains Gold Crest Awards

Members of the Haileybury Engineering Education Scheme (EES) team recently all earned Gold Crest Awards for their project set by local company Motability, in which they had to make a prototype device. The EES team was made up of Charlie Barnard (Alby), Oliver Cox (K), Barnabas Sleep (K), Amir Abdul Latiff (E), Neil Athey (teacher) and Dave Elvin (Motability representative). High praise for CD

Internationally renowned composer, Bob Chilcott, who wrote some of the music on the Haileybury Chapel Choir CD "Were You There?", has thrown high praise on the recording. Director of music Peter Davis sent Mr Chilcott a copy of the CD and his response spoke volumes. "The CD is great ... it has such energy and commitment. I was thrilled ... Composition successes for sixth formers

Two Sixth Form musicians, Helen Goddard and Simon Lascelles, shared their recent curricular compositions with large audiences in two musical events just before half term. Helen Goddard, an U6 student in Colvin, composed a Two Piece Suite for the school Senior Jazz Band as part of her A Level composition course work. With Helen on tenor saxophone, the work was exceptionally well received at its world premiere at the Haileybury Summer Concert on Thursday 15 May, and the two movements, Loungin' Around and Swingin' Along, had members of  > more

Haileybury girls sing in Ware

Three talented young singers from Haileybury - Sophie Baird, Elizabeth Stock and Sara Walsh - made solo appearances with the local Ware Choral Society on Saturday 7 June. They joined a cast of nationally renowned soloists and a professional orchestra to sing the Angels' Chorus, Lift Thine Eyes at the Drill Hall in Ware. Sophie Baird also sang a difficult solo part in duet with baritone soloist, Michael George.
