Charles Monk, Senior Master at Haileybury and Contingent Commander in charge of the Combined Cadet Force, received the honour of the MBE (Military) in the New Year's Honours List this year for his sterling services to the Haileybury CCF. Haileybury's CCF is one of the oldest in the country, dating from 1886, and provides boys and girls with opportunities for military experience within its Army, Navy and RAF sections. Oxbridge Success

Eleven Haileyburians have distinguished themselves in recent weeks by securing offers at Oxford and Cambridge colleges. As everyone knows, entry into Oxford and Cambridge Universities has become even more intensely competitive and especially - it would seem - when applications arrive from young men and women with independent school backgrounds. Cricket Tour

Haileybury was one of five British teams invited to take part in the inaugural International Schools Cricket Festival at Diocesan College in Cape Town in December. For a fortnight 14 Haileybury cricketers exchanged the bleak mid-winter for the sunny climes and warm hospitality of Cape Town in mid-summer. Furthermore they acquitted themselves very respectably against predicably competitive local opposition, benefiting from the pre-tour advice of Haileybury's professional coach Geoff Howarth, the former New Zealand test cricketer.  > more

Haileybury's Rackets Professional, Howard Angus recently took part in two British Rackets Championship finals at Queen's Club. Howard and his partner Old Tonbridgeian John Spurling, retained the Over 40's Championship title by beating former World Champion, John Prenn and his partner Norwood Cripps 3 games to 1 in the final.
