Inaugural recital for new Steinway

Tom Poster, who is rapidly emerging as one of the most talented and versatile pianists of his generation, will perform at Haileybury this Thursday evening as part of the inaugural recital for the school’s new Steinway piano.

The piano was purchased following a bequest from an OH, David Smythe. Haileybury’s Director of Music, Quentin Thomas, says the Steinway is one of the most enviable pianos for any organisation to have.

"The one at Haileybury is reserved for our best pupils and also for public occasions. It is now the school’s flagship piano and will be an invaluable teaching aid," he says.

As concerto soloist, solo recitalist and chamber musician, Tom Poster has appeared in major venues throughout Britain, Ireland, continental Europe, Macau and the Middle East, and he is a regular guest at national and international festivals. Since his London concerto debut at the age of 13, Tom has appeared extensively in a wide-ranging concerto repertoire of over 20 major works, with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic (under Yan Pascal Tortelier), Orchestra of St John’s (as Featured Artist, Dorchester Festival 2002), City of Oxford Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Macau Orchestra and the Orchestras of Nancy and Montbeliard, France.

Solo recital appearances include festivals in Brighton, Chester, Devon (Two Moors), Edinburgh, King’s Lynn, Winchester, Windsor and Spoleto, Italy (the last by personal invitation of Maestro Gian Carlo Menotti).

Tom will be performing works from Chopin, Beethoven and Scarlatti. The recital starts at 7.30pm in Bradby.
