Haileybury proclaimed outstanding in ISI inspection

Haileybury fosters “excellence in academic scholarship and studies, provides excellent boarding facilities and many excellent opportunities for study, sport and other activities”.

This is according to Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspectors, who arranged and carried out the inspection of Haileybury at the end of last year. The ISI inspects schools according to a standard framework for inspection which it has laid down for the purposes of ensuring that standards are maintained and that the school complies with relevant legal requirements.

The Inspection found that pupils achieve high standards and are “happy, confident, friendly … and enjoy the measure of independence and responsibility given to them”. Achievements at GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate stages are “well above” the national maintained school average, with the percentage of A-B grades in the Sixth Form producing a “fine achievement”.

The quality of pastoral care is described as “outstanding”, with Housemistresses and Housemasters dealing with pupils' concerns “quickly and effectively”. The report also found that activities and clubs are widespread, with strong emphasis on music and drama.

The Master of Haileybury, Mr Joe Davies, says: “We are immensely proud of this Inspection Report. It highlights the pupils' outstanding academic achievements over recent years, adds weight to our strong boarding ethos and demonstrates how pupils are inspired by our excellent teaching.”

The inspectors look at the quality of education provided, the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, their welfare, health and safety, suitability of staff, premises and accommodation, the provision of information and the manner in which complaints are handled.
