Haileybury musicians record Gershwin

Following the tremendous success of last year’s Chapel Choir CD recording, Were You There?, featuring a range of 20th century compositions by British composers, Haileybury musicians are currently involved in recording a feast of Americana in the shape of an album of music by George Gershwin entitled "S’Wonderful!".

This new CD, which will be launched on Speech Day in May 2003, features a wide range of Haileybury’s ensembles, including contributions from the symphony orchestra, both wind bands, the string orchestra, two of the school’s jazz bands, two of the many choirs and tracks by a number of different soloists and chamber groups.

Head of music, Mr Peter Davis, says last term’s recording sessions, focusing on the wind bands, jazz bands and choirs, were a great success and the remainder of recording will be laid down in a mammoth festival of music-making at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge on 18 March.

"A morning of chamber music recording will be followed by live recordings of both the rehearsals and the public concert that evening, which will feature music by both Gershwin and his compatriot, Aaron Copland," explains Davis. "With such an exciting range of vibrant, rhythmic and melodic music, this is a CD to watch out for."
