Exceptional IB Diploma Results

Haileybury pupils and teachers are celebrating the school’s best ever IB Diploma results. Such headlines are common place every year on schools’ websites around the country, in August, but in the case of this year’s IB Diploma results the achievements of Haileyburian Diploma graduates are quite remarkable. 39 pupils sat their Diploma examinations in May; they are now celebrating an average point score of 39. With the Global average typically around 29 and the UK average around 33, with no evidence of grade inflation over the last 40 years, their achievement really is exceptional. Almost half the cohort secured 40 or more points with Head Boy Dhruv Sarma leading the way with a maximum score of 45 points. Dhruv will be one of just over 100 pupils, globally, to achieve such a feat out of 120,000 Diploma graduates this summer. Dhruv will now take up his place to read Medicine at Oxford. Deputy Head Girl Rowena Sharp scored 44 points and will take up a place at Cambridge to read Economics. However, it is not just these two pupils whose achievements should be lauded. The entire cohort, since they began the course, have embraced the ethos of the programme. They have studied conscientiously, worked effectively and perhaps most importantly of all maintained a sense of balance in their lives. They have contributed in no small part to the outstanding all round educational experience that Haileybury offers. Through the CAS (Creativity, Action & Service) programme alone they have collectively participated in over 6,000 hours of co-curricular activities be it on the sports pitches, stage or serving the local community before returning to their desks or the library. Such achievements are a credit to their inspirational teachers, their families and most importantly the pupils themselves.
