Earl Attlee to give this year’s annual Attlee Memorial Lecture on Thursday 4 October

Haileybury is delighted to welcome Earl Attlee to the College to give this year’s Attlee Memorial Lecture on Thursday 4 October.

Earl Attlee is the grandson of Old Haileyburian (1897-1901) and Prime Minister (1945-51) Clement Attlee in whose honour the annual Attlee Memorial Lecture was established. Lord Attlee is himself a hereditary peer and Member of the House of Lords, where he takes the Conservative Whip (as opposed to his grandfather who was, of course, a Labour Party politician).

Attlee Memorial speakers are invited to give a talk concerning leadership, reflecting both the event’s historical connection and the College’s approach to education, which strives to ensure our pupils leave as ambitious and tolerant individuals who are leaders and life-long learners.

Organised and run under the general auspices of the Political Society, previous speakers have included the Rt Hon Sir Edward Heath MBE PC MP, Professor Peter Hennessy, the Rt Hon Mr Michael Howard PC QC MP, the Rt Hon Clare Short MP, the Revd & Rt Hon Dr Ian Paisley MP, MLA and the Rt Hon Frank Field DL, MP.

All are welcome to attend the lecture (start time 5.30pm) although places are limited. In order to reserve your seat please contact the Box Office by email or on 01992 706229.
