Dr Nicholas Tate to speak at Haileybury

Dr Nicholas Tate, Executive Chairman, International Education Systems, former DG, International School of Geneva and former Headmaster Winchester College, will be speaking at Haileybury on 27 March 2012 as part of our 150th Anniversary Lecture Series.

Dr Tate, whose topic is "What is Education For?", is the executive Chairman of International Education Systems, a network of schools in England, Hungary, South Africa and the United States. From 2003 to 2011 he was Director-General of the International School of Geneva, a bilingual foundation with 4000+ students. Prior to this, he was Headmaster of Winchester College, a boys’ boarding school. He was appointed CBE in 2001.

He has also worked for England’s National Curriculum Council and during the years 1994-2000 he was the chief adviser to England’s Secretary of State for Education on curriculum and assessment matters and responsible for the country’s national curriculum and its academic and vocational qualifications.

Dr Tate has written books and articles on education and history. He was chairman of the biennial Oxford Conference in Education from 2001-2010 and member of the Board of Governors of the International Schools Association from 2005-2010. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the International Baccalaureate and Chair of its Education Committee. From 2000-2005 he was a member of the Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de l’école, an advisory body to the French Minister of Education. He has been, and is, a Board member or Trustee of schools, universities and charitable foundations.
