Cricket teams put in good effort against Tonbridge

On Saturday 26 April, Haileybury 1st XI played Tonbridge, a school that was always going to be a difficult proposition. However, despite some losses, there were many individual performances of note: the Yearlings A and B lost but Joe Anthony and Ryan Newman bowled well to record figures of 4 for 25 and 3 for 11 respectively. Jon Peters got 3 wickets for only 5 runs for the B Team. The C Team recorded a famous victory, thanks to Ben Friend’s innings of 42 and James Asquith’s 5 for 16.

The Junior Colts had a tough time and despite Ed Rayfield’s half century for the A’s, both sides lost.

The 3rd XI fought hard against the Tonbridge Under 16 A team. Jeremy Rayfield scored a good 44 but nonetheless, they were too strong. In the circumstances, the 3rd XI can be relatively pleased with their performance. The 2nd XI batted first, on Pavilion, and posted a target of 165, thanks to a half century from Gareth George and 46 not out from Ed Wright. Tonbridge only managed to pass that total after having lost 5 wickets. The XI lost by 159 runs.

Lower School continue to show great promise for the future and on Saturday the 1st XI beat Tonbridge by 49 runs. Rhys Carter was man of the match with 45 runs and 6 for 26.
