Cavaleri Quartet to perform at Haileybury

Once in a while, something truly great comes to Haileybury… this Tuesday, it will be some of the greatest repertoire for a string quartet, all in one hit! The Cavaleri Quartet, blasting their way on to the music scene, will perform on Tuesday, 6 March, for one hour, starting at 8.30pm in Bradby Hall.

The quartet are winners of the 2011 Royal Overseas League Competition and the 2011 Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition, and have had recent debuts at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, Southbank. They have also been selected for the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme for 2011-12.

They will be performing two of our pupils’ compositions (the winners of the Composition Competition 2012):

  • Schnittke Quartet no. 3, Mvt I : Andante
  • Ravel Quartet, Mvt 2: Assez vif – tres rythme
  • Haydn Sunrise Quartet, Mvt 3: Minuet & Trio
  • Reich Different Trains

Different Trains written by one of the greatest founders of minimalist music, Steve Reich (currently celebrating his 70th birthday), and combines the traditional string quartet with sampled sounds and clips from interviews. It focuses on his frequent travels across the USA between his divorced parents. He compares his train journeys with those made by many children of his age across war-torn Europe.

This will be profound, moving and utterly unique.

All welcome, no tickets required.
