Antonio turns out for GB at Mannheim

Following an outstanding performance earlier this term, athlete Antonio Infantino has been selected to run in the 200m individual race and the 4 x 100m relay for Great Britain at the Mannheim International on 13 and 14 June in Germany.

The Mannheim International is one of the highest level junior competitions outside the World or European Junior Championships each year. The event is part of the German Selection series for their World or European Junior teams. UK Athletics has an invitation to select a small team to take part in this event.

Antonio competed at the Loughborough International two weeks ago and won the 100m race in 10.80s, but pulled up with a groin strain just before the end of the race. He was advised by his training team to have two weeks of rehabilitation in order to compete at the Bedford International Games last Sunday.

He went on to win the 200m in a strong headwind of -2.6mps, beating some of the country’s best sprinters and equalling his personal best of 21.52 secs in the process.

He says the European Junior Championship qualifier is 21.30 and seems to be in his reach before the European Trials at the end of June.

"My goal is to be selected by UKA to represent Great Britain for the 200m. However, I am concentrating on my A2 exams this week but will be back training next week."
