Martin Halsall has become Haileybury’s new Bursar following the retirement of John Palmer after eight years.
Martin has joined us after a very varied career in the Royal Air Force which spanned 32 years. Not only did he fly fighters for 20 years, but also he and his family spent a lot of time abroad with tours of duty in Germany, Canada, the Falkland Islands, Italy, Cyprus and Norway.
Latterly, as a Group Captain, Martin commanded the airbase of Akrotiri in Cyprus, which played a crucial role in supporting the operations in Iraq in 2003. His final tour of duty, as an Air Commodore, was to establish a multi-national Air Power Centre of Excellence for NATO.
Martin has moved to Haileybury with his wife Liz, a BBC radio presenter. Their three children will be seen in the local area intermittently! Amy is 13 and currently a boarder at Cheltenham Ladies College; Alexander is 22 and reading Radio and TV production at Manchester Metropolitan; and Matthew (24) is a corporate manager with Alliance and Leicester.
