"Squash is a great game that pupils will encounter during University days and well into their working lives. A particular pleasure for me is that although pupils often arrive as Squash novices at Haileybury, they end up leaving smitten by a game of relentless energy and astonishing intensity."
Niall McCarthy, Master in Charge, Squash
Offering excellent health benefits in terms of muscles and aerobics, Squash is a superb all-round sport which also promotes good spatial awareness and strong reflexes.
Squash runs for two terms at Haileybury, available to boys and to girls with four squash courts available at any one time.
Boys’ House Squash and Girls’ House Squash run in the Autumn Term, and are fiercely contested by the pupils.
The pupils compete in an internal ladder with rankings decided by outcomes of matches.
Local professional coach Mr Mark Dunn visits twice a week to set up practice drills and to improve the pupils’ technical abilities.
Haileybury has regular home and away fixtures with Berkhamsted, St. Albans, Highgate School and Merchant Taylors.
Having enjoyed quite a level of success in these fixtures, from September 2015 Haileybury will enter a team in the English National Schools Squash Championship, a new venture where we hope to measure ourselves against the nation’s elite.
Master in Charge of Squash is Niall McCarthy. Mr McCarthy and Dr Day organise Boys’ Squash whilst Girls' Squash is organised by Miss Pretorious
