Rounders is an excellent summer game for girls. At Haileybury we have five full-size pitches with the facility to use all-weather surfaces where necessary. The College also plays in a strong fixture list with both independent and state schools and teams are coached in the latest tactics and techniques. Inter-House matches are also a popular feature of the summer term.
At Haileybury, rounders is played in the Summer Term and gives girls the opportunity to play a sport which employs good hand/eye coordination, striking, fielding and catching skills plus allows individual players to contribute their own skill strength to a team combination.
The College has at least five full-size rounders pitches which are marked out on one of our sports fields. When necessary, our all-weather-surface pitches can also be set up for training and matches.
Lower School and Main School girls take part in practice games and matches. We can field an U14 A and B team, an U15 A and B team plus at least two Senior teams (before the girls leave to take their exams).
Our fixture schools include The Leys, Kimbolton, Mill Hill, Queenswood and Aldenham, as well as local state schools.
Where our co-curricular games sessions allow, we compete at the Lea Valley District Rounders Tournaments and host Lower School Tournaments too. At the end of the short Summer Term, House matches are contested with the usual verve and passion the girls bring to this competition.
Louise Rudd is responsible for rounders at Haileybury. The sport has changed over the years and Haileybury has kept up with the adjustments. All training sessions and team matches are coached and umpired by qualified PE staff who have attended up-to-date courses; staff are also able to coach girls on the developments in tactics and field placements.
