Golf is a thriving sport at Haileybury played by both boys and girls. The unique handicapping system allows pupils of different ages, abilities and genders to play competitively against each other while promoting the development of friendships across all year groups. Golf is played both outdoors at Hanbury Manor Golf Club and in our Simulator Room onsite.
Golf is an all year-round sport at Haileybury, open to both those who wish to make it a full-time sport option and those who wish to fit it round a keen interest in other sports. The golf team, comprising of boys and girls, plays friendly matches against other top golfing schools in the area and the Old Haileyburian Golf Society. Home matches are played at the prestigious Hanbury Manor Golf Club course, which is a delightful parkland regularly hosting a Seniors’ PGA tour event and our pupils can become junior members enjoying full playing rights throughout the year. The golf team also enters main national competitions such as the ISGA Matchplay Tournament and the HMC Foursomes tournament as well as Hertfordshire Schools Competitions.
The master in charge of golf is Ian Sanders and coaching is available to the pupils on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from PGA professional & Old Haileyburian, Ryan Newman, who is the Head teaching professional a local club.
Haileybury now boasts a Foresight Sport GC2 simulator housed in a converted squash court on site, where coaching happens on weekday afternoons but pupils can also use recreationally in the evenings. The installation of the simulator is proving hugely advantageous in both raising the performance standard of golf as well as generating increased interest in the sport.
