"The past year has been really successful for the International Committee. We have been working hard on lots of ideas in different areas of the school to really make the newest international pupils feel comfortable in their new surroundings. We look forward to continuing to create a warm international atmosphere at Haileybury!"
Aadyaa, member of the International Committee
Hello! We are the International Society. We meet every Monday during term time and have a committee made up of pupils with a representative from each of the Haileybury Houses.
Our job is to help new international pupils feel at home, be a point of contact, and promote internationalism throughout the College. As of June 2017, 44 different nationalities were represented at Haileybury. The largest contingents after British pupils are Italian, German, Russian, Chinese and Malaysian.
One of our members, Zafirah, has created a brilliant poster summarising what we do - you can see it by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.
We celebrate a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, including:
We start the beginning of every school year with a 'Speed Dating' event, which despite its name is actually nothing to do with dating! It is a chance to meet other international pupils and make friends.
Plus we run a variety of international dinners and impromptu lunches in each of the Houses throughout the year, which usually includes eating lots of delicious food! Recent events have included a Malay supper, French crepes and a South African bobotie.
We are already looking ahead to the next school year - we have plans to celebrate the Football World Cup, Rio Carnival, Octoberfest and hold a big end-of-year BBQ.
Click on the 'September 2017 international events' link below to find out what we will be up to at the start of the new school year in September.
We are very happy to incorporate any ideas you might have for celebrating festivals or events, for example we recently did our first stint in Haileybury's annual Dance Show, which was lots of fun!
We understand that new international pupils might have a number of questions about Haileybury and how things work here in the UK - as we have first-hand experience we can help you to answer these!
You will also find a link at the bottom of the page to more information about what Haileybury is like at the weekend.
If you have any queries please contact Mrs Baker, who heads up the committee: firstname.lastname@example.org
