Under the leadership of Housemistress Alison Baker, Hailey boasts a team of experienced Tutors of many different teaching and personal backgrounds. Tutors serve a variety of functions in House although their main purpose is to assist the academic and social development of pupils in a given year group. This page tells you more about them.

Our Tutors

The team of Tutors in Hailey includes:

Maria Sanchez de la Blanca: Assistant Housemistress, Upper Sixth Tutor, Head of Spanish

Maria joined both the school and Hailey House in 2014. The Tutor team was delighted that she stepped into the role of Assistant Housemistress. Maria is Spanish and has been living in England since September 2000. It was after visiting the country in the nineties that she realised her love for English values, the language, and the beautiful countryside. Later on, she decided to bring up her two daughters as bilingual and moved to England.

Maria has been teaching Spanish for more than 10 years in the state and private sectors, and is also involved in the examination process. She believes that education is a very efficient tool to change and improve one's life, and enjoys the pastoral side of her role as a teacher.

Maria finds working with young people very exciting and inspiring, and feels at ease in Hailey working with the HM and the great variety of international pupils who make Hailey what it is: a home. In her free time, Maria likes reading, cooking for her friends and spending time with her daughters.

Ann Spavin: Upper Sixth Tutor, Head of Adventure Skills, Teacher of ICT and Physical Education

Ann is an experienced hand having previously been HM of Melvill for 12 years. She initially joined Haileybury to run the games programme, having studied Sports Science at Loughborough University. She now teaches ICT and PE. She also runs the Coghill initiative and Lifeskills programme, which are activities aimed at Removes and Middles to develop leadership and teamwork.

Ann also co-ordinates the annual staff Christmas show 'Pastimes'. She is married to Jon and has two children. Outside her teaching and pastoral duties, Ann's interests include cycling, aerobics, amateur dramatics and music.

Phoebe Clarke: Fifths Tutor, Sports Fellow

Sylvia Gorman: Fifths Tutor, Spanish Assistante

Katie Crossley: Middles Tutor, Teacher of Drama

Emma Barrett: Removes Tutor, Teacher of Chemistry

Anita Moy: House Matron

She is there to help the girls in all sorts of ways, from laundry to lost items or simply being available for a chat in her office over a cuppa.
